California has an enormous, varied economy. They can pull in a lot of taxes because they have a lot of money. Who has money in Kansas? I can't even imagine what a rich Kansan is like. I have to believe if you somehow end up rich in Kansas, you leave Kansas.

There's a great book that was made into a documentary called "What's the Matter with Kansas?" that discusses why the people who live their continue to vote for pro-agribusiness republicans even though it's pretty much destroyed their state. Glad I don't have to live in that shithole. Never was sure why Dorothy was so gung ho about getting back there.
