Courage was a great show. One of my favorite parts of it was how they reused recorded lines so much that it became almost it's own weird language, really added to the bizarre atmosphere they were aiming for.

The Egyptian curse episode or any with that weird cat were always way scarier than the lighter ones where an undead guy pretends to be a director

my favorite Courage episode was the one where Courage reunited Kitty with her friend Bunny who was in an abusive relationship or whatever. there was nothing too weird or scary or anything about the episode; it was just really dramatized and sweet. it felt so out-of-place for Courage, but it also felt like it belonged.

Your Dead Gay Son posted:I wanna hear more about this, or is it just kinda self evident It's just the common exclamations that the characters make, like Courage whining or Eustace grumbling. In the early episodes there is a lot of recorded dialogue, but in later seasons they rely more and more on these sounds.

It being one of the last episodes produced, it ends up looking really pretty. Battle of the Planets is great too though, also because of Ted Raimi.

We have all three DVDs, but no DVD player. I might have ripped all the episodes and have them on an external drive somewhere, I dunno. I watched them before our drug store-spec RCA portable DVD player fell apart, it holds up pretty well. I hope my kid enjoys it when she's old enough. I missed out on Courage for the most part, the only thing that I really remember from that show was Doc Gerbil, who tested cosmetics on Eustace and Muriel. Well, just the Doc Gerbil's World boat ride and subsequent chase with the really weird vocal soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q1om5qV6Q4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOKYwnpe57A

That show first came on when I was 12 and I thought it was pretty meh. There wasn't any jokes! Just people screaming things and occasional deaths It was cancelled and I would've forgotten about it until I got to highschool when it seemed like half the class was goth idiots obsessing over Vasquez stuff and so I thought he only appealed to stupid people because most of the internet I was browsing at the time was plastered with catchphrases. "Piggy" is not an inherently funny word, neither is "waffles", shut up.

symbolic posted:oh, you mean every episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog I think that Courage was a better show than Zim overall. Both had the 'this is probably a bit much for kids' thing going on, and Zim can be really funny, shocking and entertaining, but overall I really like the way Courage had a lot of human warmth underneath everything while Invader Zim is ultimately very cold and cynical in a pretty hollow way. I also like the way Courage is still notorious among a certain age bracket for freaking them the gently caress out as kids, but didn't really do that much grotesque stuff like the organ stealing episode from Zim. A lot of it was the well done atmosphere and animation that could get under your skin leading to things like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AXseEnXtsc I love the harsh shift away from the usual 2d stuff to that disturbing CGI, they'd always do that in the show with bits of live action and stopmotion as well for maximum jarring effect. The music is really good in the show as well and was so great at creating the off-kilter tone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30AjupoaLtQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_Tex2AN3rI khwarezm fucked around with this message at 22:56 on Sep 6, 2016 |

I really, really loved the color palette and use of cel-shading in Zim. I was also one of 100 kids who got a copy of the OST mp3 disc back in 2001. lol

Great post. I was reading on the wiki page for courage that the show runner almost refused to use stock Foley sounds and insisted in them making new ones that were better.

I watch Courage when I want to see a pink dog somehow overcome ancient horrors for the sake of an elderly couple I watch Zim when I want to see a small green child get doused in water, searing his flesh off Edit: one of my favorite lines will always be "It's ME, I was the turkey all along!"
