How am I supposed to get passed this? I can skip the one that comes out of the incinerator since he just tanks my pistol like nothing but there's 2 in the next room, then 3 at the same time in the one after it. I run out of bullets before they all die and the pocketknife is worthless. This poo poo is really pissing me off, I've died several times just trying to manage all of it and other than that I love this game but all this action, right off the bat, is really killing it for me. It took me a bit to get past that. If you're at that part at all, you can go into the morgue and get the scorpion key. That lets you go back into the house to the second floor and get the broken shotgun from Grandma's Room. Swap that out with the shotgun in the Civil War-looking statue off the foyer for the shotgun, which is a lot more effective against the Moulded than the pistol will ever be, especially if you can score a clean headshot or two. Also, the enemies are too stupid to handle doors, so the old Resident Evil dodge-and-run is fully viable, particularly in the two areas before the Dissection Room. The game is lousy with health and ammo if you go back to older areas with psychodrugs and look around. Some of them are hidden pretty well.

It's less scripted and more that you seem to be in a house where there are several Lisa Trevor's running around. And like her, or Nemesis, there's only certain, scripted encounters where you can actually stop them. The checkpointing is pretty good for the actual scripted encounters.

I don't mind "this is a scary enemy oh poo poo hidehidehide". Siren is easily on my lifetime top five list. What I don't like is meeting John Q Zombie and sometimes it's running and sometimes it's fighting and the only way to tell which is which is to expend all rounds and then reload your game. That sort of arbitrary play-by-FAQ poo poo sucks. No idea how this compares to Nemesis because I just realized it's the only numbered game I never played for some reason. It's already purchased and downloading so the whole thing is a moot point anyway. I just hate turning off games two hours in because my need to play a video game clashed with some guy's ~cinematic vision~.

It's really not difficult to tell whether or not you should run away from something or fight it. If you can hide from it and the doors are not locked or impeding progress in any way you run away If everything is locked and you cannot return from where you came from then you fight

As for the basement, I found that kneecapping the not-regenerators made them a great deal easier to finish off. 3-4 shots to a leg will take it out, followed by another 4-ish to the head seems to do the trick (watch out for the fish-flop lunge). Don't bother going after other limbs once they're down; as far as I could tell turning them into a head-on-a-torso doesnt' kill them and with no arms they just leap all over the place. Also I haven't seen much use for the knife so far. It took far too many thrusts to kill a de-legged monster and he was launching at me the entire time. Anyone have different results with it?

The knife, in the proud series tradition (except for CV), is largely there to smash crates with. I haven't seen it do more than annoy anything else.

Actually the knife is great against the enemies until you get shotgun, 3/4 shots to the legs then do the stab attack to it's head while it's on the ground and it will instantly die. The real problem can be landing the stab as the hitbox is kinda weird if they aren't lunging right at you. Once you do have the shotgun though, in true classic RE fashion, get up close and aim up at the head to instantly kill it that way. My major complaint so far is that while there are times you are expected to run and hide, it really feels like the AI just kinda homes in around you and it's really only a matter of time until you're forced into a fight anyway, if any of you have played Alien Isolation imagine that except without the ability to hide in lockers or getting under things, so you're basically just shoving yourself into corners and humping up against furniture until whatever you're hiding from goes away. A way to lean out to peek out of cover would be a godsend, although i suppose that's one of the perks of playing with VR. I also must show my love for Jack, best goddamn villain ever man, no way the rest of the family can top him

I even killed him but he got up after a few minutes and kept coming after me. I dont get how you progress unless you already know exactly what to do and speed run through it. It reminds me of the exact same problem I had with Alien Isolation and is probably the biggest flaw in an otherwise great so far game.

I do think this game is a pain in the rear end on PS4 due to the need for increasingly precise shots to specific weak points, but fortunately, later weapons make that a bit less vital.Mr President posted:How the hell am I supposed to explore and solve puzzles if I have this god drat hick constantly chasing me?? If he can't find you, he eventually wanders away and lets you interact with puzzles again. If you're talking about the beginning of the game, fake him out, run to the end of the hallway, grab the key that unlocks the hatch, then fake back around him and drop down to evade him for the time being.

I'm sort of enjoying this, but every time the game pits me against an enemy of some sort it really starts to suck. I have enjoyed other first person horror games like Amnesia etc, but the weapons and fighting in this feel so terrible. Hopefully there's not too much of that sort of thing. Edit: The death animations take way too long. Especially since you'll be seeing them a lot, thanks to the lovely controls. Gunder fucked around with this message at 13:37 on Jan 24, 2017 |

I know that RE protags tend to have endurance at least on par with the latest brand of monster, but is there any indication as to how supposedly normal dude Ethan Winters can have his hand chopped off and react with nothing more then an annoyed grunt and maybe pouring some peroxide directly on the gushing stump? And then have it loving stapled back on, completely restoring it? I feel like he already one upped the Bakers in the durability catagory is what I'm saying.

Is there any oppertunity at all to go back to the trailer or is it basically a one way street?

PC version is Dishonored 2 levels of jank. I had to fiddle with the setting for a while to get it feeling serviceable. Turning off interlaced mode and setting it to normal causes the screen to shake by 1 pixel nonstop. Locking the framerate to 60 causes all kinds of issues. If your framerate drops below 60 the game actually plays in slow motion and causes huge desync issues in cutscenes where audio was playing 5-6 seconds behind. So leave that poo poo on variable. Other than those issues it's been ok. Made it to the first save pint before going to bed. Very spoopy.

Also, am I crazy or are some of the enemies more resilient to headshots? The first two in this area go down easily with three, but the others seem to take more but I don't see any difference between the enemies. I know the one that comes out with the Dissection Room Key has the big arm so I just run away from him, but the rest all seem to be the same but their heal values are changed. Also, I tried running but I didn't have much luck in the orange room where there's three of them as the door on the other end was locked and I wasn't able to use the key but maybe I just hosed it all up.

I loved the demo of this. The mix of Alien Isolation with Gone Home was pretty great + the game looked awesome. How much does the full experience differ from the demo when it comes to what you actually do? Is exploration as cool as it was there where you could find hidden ways to solve things/alternate routes if you poked around enough? Do boss fights suck as much as the reviewers say?

Game loving owns, can't wait to get off work and play more. Regarding boss fights--I've gone through the first two so far and was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked them, given how reviews seemed to single them out as being particularly weak. I basically turned into the living embodiment of when Jack got into his car and started careening around the garage trying to run me over

The boss fights are really interesting because (for the second one) it's more puzzle than fight, and for the first, third and fourth ones, they're brawls but there's still tricks to make them go simpler and doesn't take much to figure out mid-fight. I really enjoyed them. I would argue that the fourth fight is the weakest of the bunch from my experience, because there's a lot of downtime spread throughout the fight. The full experience is much the same of the demo in that there will be monsters that pop up and you can either run past them or fight them, hidden items literally all over the place, including hidden treasures that you will assuredly miss on your first go around (and then backtrack for when you find the treasure photos; i think they stay the same so subsequent runs will be much smoother), collectibles that are very easily missed (seriously, going back over the earlier parts of the game with psychoactives, which let you see hidden items, is crazy full of stuff i missed) They really nailed the exploration, backtracking, and level design of RE1/2 with this; it's just the right amount to be interesting. e: Also I watched someone do the first four fights on Madhouse difficulty and hoo boy the fourth one looks particularly lovely compared to normal mode boy are my arms tired fucked around with this message at 17:17 on Jan 24, 2017 |
