Alessa reverts back to her natural form and joins alongside the others shaking off minor disorientation. She knew these trails were treacherous, but she had not expected to encounter the indifferent thirst of the wild so soon. The spiders destroyed, and feeling like herself again, she let out a contented sigh, and started to follow after Vlad and Slayn when she realized that Rae was attempting to subjugate one of the still living spiders. She calmly approached Rae and the spider, kneeling down beside it and placing her palm on its hairy exoskeleton. Clicking rapidly she attempted to imitate the call of a broodmother. Alessa is able to communicate openly with the spider; in summation, the spiders were sent from a mountainous area somewhere off to the west, to interrupt the convoy. You manage to piece together that a necromancer is involved. It's pretty clear that the spiders are just pawns in this attack. At about the same time Jozan spots a raven up in the treetops. It begins to caw incessantly before pointing its beak to the west, and getting ready to flap away. Since y'all did well on your skill checks, you will make it to ....wherever the raven is going/wherever the spiders came from, before it gets there *assuming* that is your intent. You may wish to simply proceed onward to the next civilized locale and make sure the convoy is safe in getting there. We'll assume this course of action has more or less already been decided, in-character; as such, you will not be under any strict time pressure to decide amongst yourselves, but I'll bring closure if the debate is just circling the bowl. Heading to the west, with the raven soaring forward overhead, you enter a small clearing in the forest. At the center of the clearing is a firepit, with 5 vertical stones seemingly in a circular arrangement around it. Bones litter the ground, and as you approach, they begin the rustle; in mere seconds a small army of animated Skeletons faces you, with blades and bows drawn. Two of them stand out over the others, both much larger and distinct in colour. One is a grisly shade of red, with the other a shimmering metallic colour, as if metal had been grafted to its bones, with claws springing forth from its forearms. The cairn stones can each provide Cover to 1 creature (enemy or PC), and can also be used as High Ground for 1 creature. Otherwise, you are out in the open; if you are currently Hidden, cool, but for the remainder of the encounter, you will need cover to hide. As per initiative rules (RAW) Vlad and Slayn are Hidden, plus Alessa and Jozan can each Immobilize an enemy; this can be sustained on your turn with a successful WIS check (Standard Action) I'm a little unsure if this rule will stay in, but let's try it out. You are correct sir! [Redbones] [9/42 HP] Unfortunately for you, as the skeleton becomes 'bloodied', you notice that it bursts into flames before your very eyes; the heat is intense, and you can tell that this is not a good place to stand. Vlad takes 6 damage as the flames scorch the immediate area; if you end your turn Engaged with the skeleton, take 9 additional damage. Vlad still has a Move Action with which he can Disengage from the monster (since you move in and Engage as part of the Standard Action to make your melee attacks) unless he wishes to stand his ground. So for Move Actions, if you: - Shift, you can disengage the 1 guy "for free" - Withdraw, you can 'Tumble' and if the check (Agility or Athletics) is successful, you disengage from all the enemies - Provoke, you disengage from all the enemies without needing to make a check, but the Skeleton will get an OA Keeping in mind the benefits of Disengaging: The Next Project - Core Rules posted:Disengaging: You have Advantage on Defense rolls against melee attacks from all targets you Disengage; targets you Disengage from cannot become Engaged with you. Both of these effects last until your next turn. Also, The Next Project - Core Rules posted:No action: Take Cover (as part of any action that removes you completely from being Engaged) The Next Project - Core Rules posted:Cover: You have Advantage on Defense rolls against attackers not already Engaged with you P.d0t fucked around with this message at 14:39 on Apr 22, 2017 |

I think the spider is a good idea, keeps me free and makes sense. Alessa, stalking the skeletons who thrust at her, turned her gaze towards the spider that had accompanied them and after a series of brief, guttural clicks the spider skittered into the maelstrom and tried to subdue the ore-infused skeleton at its master's beckon. As Rae steps through the portal, a strange sensation creeps up her spine. Her mind becomes a fog, memories begin to blur... ________________________ Rae remembered a time long ago, when she was a child; her village was being assaulted be feral werewolves. Were it not for the timely arrival of Ylisse's brave knights, they might've all been slaughtered...but, wait...was that how it happened? New memories started to flood her mind, at once strange and familiar. In this version of events, the knights indeed arrived...but a day too late. The village had been overrun, most of the inhabitants dead. Rae herself had been wounded, but managed to survive under the shelter of her parents' corpses... After that day, Rae idolized those brave warriors, and strove to join their number... But, no...she hated them...they didn't save anyone... She went on to master the arts of spells and swordplay, and became one of the Queensguard... ...Or had she joined a band of mercenaries, eventually harnessing the latent lycanthropy she'd been infected with that day...? ________________________ The confusion wracked her brain, giving Rae a pulsing headache. As she passed through the portal, she glanced at herself and realized that somehow, things had changed. Gone was her knight's regalia, replaced with the crude leathers and cloth of a sellsword. Gone was her blade, and her memories of magic were too faded and clouded by her second life to replicate a spell. What manner of curse was this? How could it be reversed or broken? These questions sprang to her mind, but as Rae felt the incredible strength pulsing through her veins, another query crept unbidden to the surface; if this magic could be undone, would she even want to? ________________________ Class change to: Barbarian Spending Reserve to heal; 32/32 HP, 6/12 Reserves.
