i know every1 knows about it, but Bret Hart vs Steve Austin at wrestlemania 13 is genuinely so insanely good and deserving of all the hype it gets. only version i can find on youtube is cut up, so gently caress that.

this one is really loving good too. Kenta Kobashi vs. Steve Williams 94 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VokEiUO1IBs, a bit long but it goes by in a blitz imo. rip dr death

as for more modern stuff, from wwe i remember the great debut match of the shield. Shield VS Daniel Bryan, Kane and Ryback https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3a36g2

and this one is an absolute must watch if u somehow havent seen it yet. its really short and really good. more wrestling matches should be like this. and the yearly new japan tournaments is usually the best chance for stuff like this to happen. Shibata VS Ishii 2013 https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5x713r

i love the one of those he did for the big austin/rock match where he just talks about how little they actually worked during the match, points out all the times hes just barely out of shot drinking water because he was tired and thirsty, and then at the end admits heel austin was a mistake and he only did it because he was bored. austin always delivered at mania

that match was very good and probably the last good nakamura match ever Lol. i also liked this one, which feels vaguely like the one they based themselves on to make that match. not sure which one i like better of the two. audio is only cut off during the entrances. Kota Ibushi VS Shinsuke Nakamura 2013: https://www.bilibili.com/video/av12295255/

also unrelated but lmao at the websites you have to go to just to link matches. the only other one i found with this match was an actual porn website.

it's not on youtube unfortunately but there's a shibata vs. goto match from like 2013 or something that's just them beating each other up basically for real for like 11 minutes. i lost my mind during it then and would again if i watched it again. it's as perfect that a match can get imo

Was gonna post this. Dominion 2013 was the first modern NJPW show I watched and I was enjoying it but not like going bananas and kinda waiting to see Okada and Tanahashi for the first time and then these two guys I'd never heard of came out and had probably my favorite match ever lol. I actually just re-watched it because I'm going back from roughly Bullet Club forming until whenever I get bored and it definitely holds up. I miss Shibata a lot, I love Goto and Ishii and all those other guys that beat the poo poo out of each other but he was my favorite

This 4-way trios match from 2003 Toryumon is perfect wrestling, it has everything you could want in a single match: Cool entrances, crisp mile-a-minute spots, crowd brawling, comedy, high tension drama, a hot crowd popping for everything, and Don Fuji. I get hyped and full of adrenaline everytime I watch it.

so I loving love clear storytelling in wrestling, and the matches I'm about to share are three of imo the clearest self-contained stories that I've ever seen.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRml6LaLut0

Dick Togo is usually a complete bastard heel, and Antonio Honda is usually a massive comedy babyface, but in this match Togo plays an incredible face role, selling his left arm so drat well as Honda absolutely loving destroys it. You ask yourself just how Togo can strike back, and the story opens up so beautifully from there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2OLvGT5ROU

On June 9th 1995, the Four Pillars Of Heaven wrestled one of the greatest tag team matches of all time. Kobashi comes into the match with an injured knee, and you're wondering just how long he can last until he lets his guard down and Kawada or Taue rips into him. When it happens, he and Misawa last so much longer than you expect, and the whole struggle is so beautiful that it makes you believe so drat hard that the outcome isn't inevitable.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eby9RXk4dxk

Twenty-four years to the day of the Four Pillars' tag match, at NOAH's yearly Misawa tribute show, came imo the greatest singles match of the past two years. Takashi Sugiura is the second greatest wrestler of the 2010s (after Daniel Bryan). Here he's beating up the man who will eventually be known as the greatest wrestler of the 2020s, Kaito Kiyomiya. I especially love their limbwork in this match, as it makes the ending all the more clear and satisfying.

A lot of people hated the 2020 Royal rumble for impossibly dumb reasons, which is a shame because it's the best Royal Rumble since the god tier 2008 one. The story of everyone trying desperately to, and inevitably failing to, eliminate Brock is so incredibly simple and well executed.

Son Of Northern Frostbitten Wintermoon

Super Dragon & Excalibur vs Kevin Steen & El Generico at CZW Cage Of Death VI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpjupI8Wbx8

its just some of the quintessential early 2000's American indie style poo poo at the tail end of when Dragon could still move and do stuff. its not the first match I saw from any of these men but its one that I remember well

Kaientai DX vs Gran Hamada, Gran Naniwa, Masato Yakushiji, Super Delfin & Tiger Mask https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjigyMUxNQI

first ten-man tag I saw, and the first full puro card that I watched. crazy to think Michinoku could draw nearly 8000 people.

I was also at literally ringside to witness Kenta Kobashi vs Ares live which on the ranking of Kobashi matches is most likely way down on the list but personally it was loving magical to witness
