BIG PUFFY NIPS posted:thanks for posting this its pretty dang interesting ill add the book to my pile As I said later in the thread, Viktor Belenko saw Jimmy Carter's America with all the good and the bad. I'm not saying pure capitalism is the answer for everything. But overall, the system we have is pretty dang good. We should be proud of what America stands for, The ideals that caused a communist party elite to not believe what he was seeing for months. Where a waitress working at Denny's was making more than a Soviet fighter pilot. Sure we have faults, but the communist reality that he grew up with was in stark contrast that many people in the west thought was the socialist paradise. The only paradise Viktor Belenko grew up with was drinking himself into a early grave. The other point made in the thread was lol russia is a capitalist country now and is totally hosed lol. Yes russia is capitalist, but it is still being run by the party elite, ex-kgb and any strong man that had the forethought to snatch up the nationalised entities after the fall. Russia and the old soviet block in general has none of the checks and balances that America has in the Constitution. A guarantee of rights that every citizen is entitled to. Something that at the time of its creation was unheard of, its creation sparked democracy in the "west". In Russia today the lack of a constitution backed up with separate Judicial and Legislative branches that act as checks and balances to each other basically allow Putin to act as a dictator. Turning and Squeezing an entire country for one mans profit.

The only paradise Viktor Belenko grew up with was drinking himself into a early grave. i think that america is the best state on the planet by design but in my estimation the system that currently exists is a sad shadow of what it once was and an insult to what we could have been. today the waitress at dennys might well be drinking herself to death trying to balance that job that no longer pays a living wage and her other job which no longer provides stable hours with family and personal life so that the shareholders of dennys can put a few more bucks in an offshore account. it is not enough to be better than other systems see my post about what i think the function of the state is on the last page russia has a whole slew of they own problems many of them institutional but one thing they share with us is that the political class works for themselves and oligarch patrons rather than the people putin isnt a mastermind with absolute power by any means he exists because he serves the purpose of capital and once he does not he will be deposed or killed like many inconvenient leaders were throughout last century proof of concept posted:gokuism oh heck yeah now thats a structure of ideas i can get behind BIG PUFFY NIPS fucked around with this message at 10:05 on Nov 13, 2016 |

An unironic modest proposal: on how to peacefully incentivize the entrepreneurial class to empower the working class and shift the ownership of the means of production into a cooperative style franchise model Low or zero rate interest loans as an incentive for small business start ups to begin, fully backed by the federal government along with some options for forgiveness and low tax rates to really incentivize business growth. The caveat: small business owners will give up the ownership of the business to the workers after a fixed amount of time, however they may still retain some portion of the company for themselves as a sort of colonial governors tax, The model is based on colonialism. Business owners can start business and hand ownership over to workers and collect a small rent for their part in starting it. Government will back zero or low percent loans if business owners agree to this model. This will incentivize business owners to treat their workers as future co-owners rather than proles, training them and teaching them like an apprentice. The business owner can still receive kickbacks if his little startup does well after turning into a cooperative and he is free to start another business venture with a new group of workers. This model encourages small business owners to train workers to support themselves, and offers the economic incentive for them to do it.

Working 7 days a week, making no money, busting your rear end long hours to get the thing off the ground. Your proposal essentially removes the incentive for putting in this kind of effort.

A true mixed market economy would obviously be best. Real social safety nets, public healthcare, better public schools etc. in a smartly regulated capitalist system is probably asking for too much.
