I have to say, an entire school of piranhas is a really cool idea for a transformation and it's probably the first one in this game that I've really liked.

e: also the "extravagant backgrounds" joke may have been a playful jab at the minecart and rocketbarrel sections from DKC Returns/Tropical Freeze, since those could get real extravagant.

yeah, the first two transformations are pretty lackluster. The final pair are super sweet to make up for the initial poor showing though.

Never, God willing. DazzlingAddar's is the definitive DK64 LP because it proved that nostalgia is a lie.

I've never seen an LP of the 3D Gex platformers, though. Like most games in the genre, they didn't age well.

Not quite an LP, but Chip Cheezum and company streamed the whole series last year.

Yeah. Did not age well at all.

It's aggressively '90s both in terms of gameplay and attitude. Square holds the rights and it's not like they're interested in many of the IPs that they've acquired to begin with, so it's a safe bet that it'll stay dormant.

Apparently, if you tweet at Dana Gould on Twitter and ask if he'll voice Gex in a future game, he'll block you.

I liked the slot macines in this level, pretty much all of them have a twist be it figuring out which collumn is stopped by which button, the direction the reels spin reversing, or that fun one you have to sync.

Now rextro on the other hand....
I put the high score off until it was my last pagie. That game was bad.

My biggest issue with this level had to be the combination of the coins not auto saving and the game not being stable on my system. It was... not a fun combination.
Still my favorite level. I just dig the aesthetic.

I'm surprised they didn't just have you automatically get the pagie if you get the high score on your first go-round, like how giving a bunch of blueprints all at once would give you a bunch of golden bananas in DK64. It would make the Rextro stuff way less of a pain in the rear end overall.

We need Dragon-type Pokemon to help us prepare our food before we cook it. We're not sure why!

Just to chime in, I live on the border of two states with a casino about an hour away in either direction. One casino is 18+ and the other is 21+. They're both tribal casinos so it's probably their judgment, but they all have little "family friendly" routes to get to the buffet and concerts. You could very well end up with a 12-year-old running around cursing in a casino.

Oddly enough, The Philosopher (Sorcerer)'s Stone is the one HP book I never actually read.

But that is neither here nor there. Anyway, those cannon balls in the windows are really hard to see during that slow moving platform segment. I completely missed the first set of them and had some trouble staying on the platform during that section of it. I also did that part well before I got Laylee's flying power, which in retrospect was probably a dumb thing.

Where exactly does the game explain that Yooka's invisibility move can refract light into a frickin' laser beam? I seem to have completely missed that part and thus couldn't solve a number of puzzles until I saw you do it in this LP...

A lack of clear direction does seem to be one of Yooka-Laylee's biggest flaws, even with the patches. As charming as everything is and as good as some parts are sometimes I see what happens, even though it would probably be much clearer if I was the one playing, and think "I do not know how I would know to do that."

IT'S ME, BURROWS!

IT WAS ME ALL ALONG, BURROWS!
Oh god you mentioned sous vide.

Okay so in cooking, certain things happen at certain temperatures, and a lot of those temperatures can actually be quite low, so the point of sous vide is precise temperature control to do those things without needing perfect timing or a whole lot of experience with high temperature juggling acts or whatever. Certain vegetable dishes, yogurt, black garlic, egg pasteurization while cooking to an exact doneness, and so on. The biggest draw of sous vide is beef. Tenderize tough cuts like short ribs over two to three days before doing a high temperature finish. Get steaks to exactly how you want them and put on a fast outer sear with minimal gray bands. You can do chicken, but it's totally possible to overdo it and going as far as half a day is probably going to break something already tender like chicken down into mush. GWS has a great thread on the subject.

Actually I lied, the biggest draw of sous vide is playing with fire

Update!

It's time to visit the expanded version of Galleon Galaxy! If you recall, the last time we were here there wasn't really that much to do. This is because the majority of the level is locked away behind world expansion. This does mean we're essentially going to be finishing the entire level in 2 videos as opposed to 3 or 4 so best get comfy and prepare yourself for the longest video in the series!

Mainlined the LP, great stuff. Excellent banter, solid editing, competent skills.

It's a shame expectations were dialed so high for Youka-Laylee. People asked, and Playtronic promised and delivered on a Banjo-Three-ie. But I suppose what people really wanted was Banjo-Twenty-Three-ie. Platformers have advanced since the N64 days and YL doesn't seem to have incorporated much of that beyond really shiny graphics.

Looking forward to whatever you guys decide to do next after this. A Hat In Time was mentioned, that looks fun, but maybe that's a little too much platforming all at once.

I'm still working on the previous video. That race in Galleon Galaxy can be difficult the first time, but it's really damned boring once you get the hang of it. I'm actually not sure what the devs were thinking with it.

This game is good, but it suffers much the same problem as Banjo-Tooie, where the levels are so big and scattered, they lack focus.
