So, this is a viable way for me to make money? I can stop going to my local labor ready company and become a member of the bourgeoisie? I have stories about mmos I played for a week. Horror tales of stomping on the heads of ghouls till my free trial ran out. Existentialism at its finest.

Do the yeti yaoi instead. That sounds like it would feature more literary experimentation.

I'm actually uploading a web serial myself at the moment and, something I heard from a few people in the 'scene' was to get the LitRPG crowd 'on side'. People would say that they pay money and they'll proselytize without much regard to quality. For example, read the sample of Survival Quest that you can get on Amazon and wonder how it got so many positive reviews when the prose is in obvious need of an editor. This is how the story begins: "They say that God is Truth. I don't know, really. Maybe that's how it is - it's not something I ever checked, so I'm not going to argue. But all arguments are evil and a great evil at that. And that's a Truth against which there's no argument. A play on words, if you like." What?

The vanquished slug queen had dropped two purple axes. The one in his left hand increased strength by 3%, which increased to 6% once his endurance reached 12. The one in his right gave a flat +1000 to damage. Steeling his mind once more, Velk'smur removed the graph paper from his satchel.

I could see this being an exercise if you've never really written before and just want some practice filling out a bare-bones "plot" without actually having to come up with a plot, but I can't imagine people wanting to read that, especially if it's as literal as the stuff being quoted.

I could see this being interesting in a sci-fi sense but, uh, not the number crunching part. A lot of William Gibson's novels had parts of the action taking place in virtual reality, for example. Iain Banks managed to write a book about an obese autistic virgin playing not-WoW while taking care of his cancer-ridden father just before he croaked, and it was fascinating to read. But I'm guessing this LitRPG thing is nothing like that lol.

Is this like a choose your own adventure book or just about people playing RPGs? Do you read this to reminisce about all the time you sunk into video games? My nightmare is listening to someone sperg out about an RPG's lore, or how they grinded x hours for x loot and it was all totally worth it. I couldn't imagine that being a story worth telling.

The story scribed on its pages in the blood of the deceased is really kind of sub-par fanfiction style writing and is littered with spelling and grammatical errors. The author also uses "lol" way too often considering the medium.

I'm tinkering with Amazon ads as well as promotion on Facebook. Many books do much better, but many do much worse as well. If I hadn't recouped my initial investment I wouldn't have continued, but I'll keep writing because success seems to correlate reasonably well with quality of work, and I can definitely do better.
