I like Uncharted, it's not the same as Bourdain's deal at all. Bourdain wasn't a very good cook, he knew that and that's partly why he cultivated a "bad boy chef and traveler" persona instead of "world-class chef and traveler" persona. I don't think Bourdain actually cooked on his travel shows, and if he did it was probably to work next to the chef being featured and get that person on camera, like when Action Bronson cooks on "gently caress That's Delicious." (That's an awesome show, by the way.) Gordon actually cooks on "Uncharted."

I'm seeing a lot of talk in here about Gordon Ramsey being abusive. I worked as a cook for a few years in the late 2000's. Everything I heard from older chefs about him confirmed my suspicions, he's actually quite tame. Especially when compared to other famous TV chefs. Some of the worst stories I heard were about Paul Rankin. Paul comes off as a mild mannered skinny long-haired hippy. But when the camera turns off he's the sort of guy that throws chefs knives at delivery men for being late. The sort of man who would slit open a 5kg bag of frozen peas and toss them all over the walk-in freezer and then scream "PICK ALL THOSE loving PEAS UP!!! Food tv is in two main categories: 1) You're a guest in my fake kitchen set and I'm showing you how to make poo poo 2) We're traveling to eat a fuckton of food in some places that aren't our home country (Corrolary to this: could also be food in your own country that is considered a 'hidden gem') Bourdain did #2 in an entertaining manner because he's funny, but it's not like he pioneered the format.
