I was surprised that it wasn't a Happy Madison production, I was getting Eight Crazy Nights vibes from the suuuuuper funny jokes. Guess Sandler learned to stay out of animation though.

That's insane, I can't believe it exists. Some of the effects look real rough but I almost wanna see it just because of the sheer audacity of attempting something like that, I suspect a lot people would get motion sick long before the end.

I don't know if it actually ended up that way but they originally produced it through crowdfunding, which might explain some dodgy effects. The way they filmed it is pretty crazy as the main actor wore this elaborate head mounted camera rig. I don't think you can sustain a movie like that at feature length, it's going to get exhausting and obnoxious after 10 minutes. Maybe if it was a realistic, restrained action thriller (like end of watch, something more character focused), but this is clearly aiming for something more along the lines of Crank or a Final Fantasy cutscene. Works in trailer form but I bet people will hate it as an actual movie.

Works in trailer form but I bet people will hate it as an actual movie. Almost the entire first half of Dark Passage, a 1947 film noir, is shot from first person perspective. It is a very cool movie and the style actually works better than one might expect, though I couldn't stop thinking about how video-gamey certain scenes looked. The opening scene, linked above, looks like a tutorial. EDIT: Here's another scene for reference. QuoProQuid fucked around with this message at 13:07 on Sep 14, 2015 |
