Updated my original post. I just screencapped the pdf. I still have it saved but finding a host for images is way simpler than pdf.

They typically do pre-orders for new editions at the end of June, as that's the end of GWs fiscal year so the revenue bumps up the annual results. Wonder if they'll still do that this time with so many other new releases delayed. They'd have to cram nearly 3 months worth of stuff into June to do it.

It shall be known as The time of many wallets screaming.

At least it doesn't sound like a drastic departure and the Crusade thing could be cool.
Nice preventive measure with the question about non-Primaris marines there.

I like the sassy answers about crazy Andrew who refuses to play anything than lead miniatures only rogue trader edition, and telling people about their tattoos being invalidated.

Its hard to tell from that FAQ but it sounds like more rules may change than most people think.

I agree the crusades thing sounds particularly interesting though. I really like playing 40K as a sort of competitive game, but if they came up with a really cool narrative format, for example sort of mashing elements of 40K's game and a sort of persistence for armies like you see in some of the other specialist games (necromunda, kill team etc), that would probably be what I mostly play if I got the chance.

9th sounds like what I figured it'd be. A refining of 8th similar to 4th with 3rd edition and that is totally fine. I have really fond memories of 4th. Hopefully they can work out the kinks and consolidate some stuff.

It's its own separate ruleset so there's really no need to mess with it. It may see its own new edition down the line, but mainline 40k need not interact with it.

I know I've gotta start somewhere, there's just so much detail so I'd like to see comparison paints to give me an idea.

With all the talk about how the rules are written to incorporate previous codices etc it seems we’re not getting any big changes unfortunately. I don’t see how that could be compatible with the great stuff from apocalypse for example, maybe I guess?

There's another on the right too, maybe different versions of them. They look like giant versions of spindle drones, pretty cool.

We also have new versions of:
  • Warriors
  • Destroyers
  • Monolith
  • C'tan
  • A big multi-armed general grevious chap like the Ossiarchs from AoS
  • Silent King at the top right

Top of my wishlist is the delayed damage mechanic. They could still incorporate that in some form even without needing to change the turn structure.

yea same, I was expecting 9th to be more of 'we're refining what works' than 'here comes the revolution' and I'm fine with that because 8th seems like a fine edition.

Maybe I'll get back into 40k fully with 9th ed coming out, should involve a new starter set and all right?

It's live! And the cinematic trailer for 9th was pretty rad, Sororitas being rad and even female Guardsmen.

Also sounds like Biglys will finally get chainswords proper.

And they revealed right after that yes, they will get chainswords as Assault Intercessors.
Not gonna lie, I want some because I'm tired of powerswords.

And apparently they're working on a new app as well so it seems like they're learning.

So 9th is pretty much a massive patch onto 8th because they just mentioned that they're fixing terrain, tanks can shoot into combat to avoid being blocked, aircrafts ignore intervening units, blast weapons do more damage to hordes and terrain being fixed too.
Also more command points and crusade is the 3rd edition campaign system.

The video about it is already up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFh9rJgFmdU

Edit:
Pete Foley more or less admitting they hosed up with the Terrain rules for 8th was unexpected.
And the different gameplay sizes sounds almost like a callback to the 5th edition rulebook.

Something from the mention about the new app:

quote:

There’s been one thing we’ve been asked for more than anything else in the last three years (aside from the Lion riding a Thunderhawk): “Can my digital codex come bundled with my print version?” Well, Noble Hobbyist, yes. Yes it can. Whenever you buy a 9th edition codex, you’ll get the digital rules for that codex in the app for free.
This is fantastic.
