old machinery will always be interesting to me because the parts are big enough to see how it actually works until you get into stuff with lots of electrical components. it's kind of like manual transmission on cars. when you use the clutch pedal you can really feel what it is doing to the car to produce the effect of shifting gears. sure now most automatic transmissions let you select gear at will (and the most sophisticated ones can shift way way faster than a human could ever hope) and the end result is the same but feels so detached from the mechanics of the vehicle.

Auto hold is nice (where it holds the brakes on a hill so you don't have rollback) but that rev matching one feels weird. I get it, it's great for extending the life of the clutch and makes the car way easier to drive with upshifts being a non-issue but it takes the soul right out of it when there's a big safety net in place.

To that kid's credit, he didn't just throw that used stick on the ground. I bet he was going straight to the nearest trash can to dispose of it properly.

Also was in Boy Scouts. The Scout Masters don't appreciate it when you tell them what sad, sorry shits they are, stuck in dead-end jobs, whose one thrill is commanding boys around one day of the week and occasionally on the weekends. I was placed in "Troop Troublemakers", which was less a tactic to place the bad kids in a group so they can get the extra help and training they need, and more a way to stick kids in a group and then just let them do whatever the gently caress they wanted because it was easier that way. After three years, I had almost earned a single badge. Almost. EDIT: Oh, and one of the Scout Leaders did actually turn out to be a pedophile. Apparently nothing happened during my stint, but he had molested some boys when he was a Scout Leader in Europe for a while. He was also the bus-driver for the local elementary school!

How did you last three years? I couldn't have been in it more than three months. Never tried for a badge, although if there was one for throwing my knife into trees I probably could have earned that.

Never tried for a badge, although if there was one for throwing my knife into trees I probably could have earned that. Being in the group with all the troublemakers, half of which were already friends from school, and being left to our devices basically made it parent-approved "get up to no good" time. Our scout meetings were mainly spent outside, messing around the nearby park and waterfront. Camping trips just added to the opportunities to do bad poo poo. Since there's not any sort of grading that gets back to your parents, when I got home I was all "Yep, had fun tonight. Learned about knots and.... wood? I guess?" and they were none the wiser. Basically just stayed in because of momentum, and then dropped out when girls became more interesting.

If HBO does follow the GoT formula and puts it into I, Claudius it'll own hopefully
