Star Trek Elite Force's multiplayer mode has been given a free standalone re-release with the blessing of Viacom and Raven, to mark three anniversaries - the 30th anniversary of Raven, the 20th anniversary of Elite Force and the 10th anniversary of the community still messing around with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZX6U1FzTDQ

What was the first console FPS game to use dual analog controls? I was playing Alien Resurrection for the PS1 and I was wondering about that. I know that it's one of the first to use them as a default, but I'm not sure which game was the first one to use them.

Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown features dual analog and is probably the first FPS to do so in 1997, predating the American release of the controller which resulted in the feature being unadvertised on the American box but it's on the PAL and Japanese box. It can't be customized and it's wonky: left stick is forward/backward/turn and right stick is up/down/strafe. e: I just realized it's the same control scheme as Mega Man legends. It took a year for people to be like "what if one stick controlled movement and the other controlled camera?" al-azad fucked around with this message at 21:46 on Jul 10, 2020 |

You can move and shoot but there isn't a reticle, it's a kind of auto-aim I think? Anyway like Goldeneye to actually aim you have to hold down a button which freezes your movement, but brings up an aiming reticle, which you can then navigate to your intended target. Like Goldeneye it is absolutely painful to use and the aiming scheme has aged horribly.

I dunno about SS4. For a game whose main claim to fame is that it will have "1000s o enemies on screen at a time" they sure haven't showed any of that.

I think I’ve made it pretty clear that I love Serious Sam, warts and all, so I am stoked to find out it is coming out so soon. Plus it means they’ll get their asses to work on Talos Principle 2 which is an added bonus. PLUS this news about Shadow Warrior 3 is a bonus-bonus, since I wasn’t even aware of its existence outside of a week or two ago. My body is ready.

Just barely that is, and it would for sure be easier on a PC, but I think T2 did a really great job with wall running and even on controllers it was an enjoyable movement option.

Someone make trailer Duke in GoldSrc. Aren't there a few HL2 Beta mods? I think I saw one had the hydra, but I wouldn't quote me on that. That last line though made me think though. If they made a new Duke game (or SiN, or Blood, or Blake Stone, or what have you), and they used an old engine (like Wrath: Aeons of Ruin, so some modernization is perfectly fine), what engine would you use? I'm thinking 2000 is the latest you'd go, so no UE2 or Source but idTech3 squeaks by. I think GoldSrc could work well for Duke (but I always liked the look of the Quake/2 versions of DNF), Half-Nuked had some nice feeling weapons and I've seen several mods that had some nice city levels. ... I wanna say Dark Engine for Blake Stone, but I think that's just my wish for a Blake Stone immersive sim bleeding through. ... TekWar in early Lithtech.
