...yep? Some exec walked by thinking, "Metroid is a woman?! We can sex that up a bit."

Don't worry, Gamers™. I know the character's name isn't actually Metroid. It's Ridley.

my Metroid story is that I was drawing crude and amateurish Metroid fanart as a little kid and my mom said "why does he" (mom hadn't beaten the game under a certain time limit, you see) (and, to be fair, neither had I) "have to have a gun" and so I dutifully changed the end of Samus's arm cannon into a big old compass

now mom loves guns and re-opening businesses early so I guess the true Space Pirate is... YOU

A while back John Oliver did a piece on Boris Johnson and how his whole wild hair and goofus personality is all calculated to make people take him less seriously so he can get away with poo poo.

He’s good friends with Andrew Sullivan who did the same kind of bait and switch poo poo for years until it became ok to drop kayfabe

I read a description a journalist wrote about seeing Johnson speaking at some big dinner, how he got up to the podium all befuddled, couldn't find his notes and ended up having to speak off the cuff, but it was very entertaining. Then the same guy saw him at another thing weeks later and johnson gave exactly the same 'off the cuff' performance.

Been said before that his whole thing is that he's an idiot pretending to be a smart person pretending to be an idiot

and that most of britain is literally trained from birth to reflexively obey a particular accent

BREADS
I forget who told this one, but Johnson was about to walk out onto the stage when an aid spoke up “Boris, your hair!”

It was sitting down like a normal person’s hair, so Johnson licked a hand and ruffled it up.

'Boris' isn't even his first name, or the one that he goes by in private. It's his political persona.

His real name is 'Alex', as in 'Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson'
