the weirdest thing about that book (to me) even more than the author posing as her dead father was that she had written literally HUNDREDS of books but the plot was just incredibly badly told/edited. the book is like 600 pages but is full of repeated plot beats and filler. the main character over 3 days goes on 3 dates with the same woman and gets attacked by the same group every time and wins in the same way. tons of perspective shifts to characters that don't affect the plot. the main character repeating the same speech about himself (or other characters saying it to him).

its like one of those webcomic authors who draws every day but whose art hasn't improved whatsoever over 20 years. kind of feels like you have to try to suck that bad.
