A long time ago, there was a readthrough; don't recall which forum. It was some absolute gunwank about a guy waging one-man war against the Evul Government. Don't recall the title and don't have archives.

From another forum, here's the Let's Read Index. No idea how good the books or readthroughs are. I'm following a couple ongoing, but it's more depressing awful than funny awful, so I'm not recommending it.

Gutter Phoenix did a readthrough of The Cult Crushers where the authors couldn't help but make the Neo Nazi a sympathetic character.

There's a podcast I like called Expounded Universe where the two hosts read through Star Wars EU books(and one Star Trek/X-Men crossover novel, and one Supernatural book). It's not all total poo poo but a lot of it is more than bad enough to scratch a "making fun of bad books" itch. The first season in particular is great for giving us Xizor, the worst best character ever.

Djeser

it's crow time again

I also recommend Expounded UIniverse. They're basically blow-for-blow recaps, so you get a lot more of the stupid crunchy details like C-3P0''s "Han Solo, What A Man Solo" song.

(The only season I didn't enjoy basically top to bottom was the X-Men/Star Trek crossover book. When it's Star Wars (or Supernatural) one of them is an expert and one of them has only baseline zeitgeist knowledge, so there's kind of a built in "explaining it for the normies" angle, but in the X-Men season both of them were experts so they would go off on, I assume, very funny tangents about comic book stuff and I'd zone out like when I'm listening to System Mastery and they start talking about to-hit mechanics.)

the weirdest thing about that book (to me) even more than the author posing as her dead father was that she had written literally HUNDREDS of books but the plot was just incredibly badly told/edited. the book is like 600 pages but is full of repeated plot beats and filler. the main character over 3 days goes on 3 dates with the same woman and gets attacked by the same group every time and wins in the same way. tons of perspective shifts to characters that don't affect the plot. the main character repeating the same speech about himself (or other characters saying it to him).

its like one of those webcomic authors who draws every day but whose art hasn't improved whatsoever over 20 years. kind of feels like you have to try to suck that bad.

And for the same reason. You keep putting out that kind of content and you attract an audience through sheer familiarity, and just learn to do the bare minimum to keep going.

thats why its weird, from a "bare minimum" perspective it seems way easier to just write a 300 page book than a 600 page one where you write the same scene multiple times

moonlight. Only her boots had lost their gleam, their lower halves being caked with mud.
She raised a smooth bulbous-thighed frog-like leg up onto the starter to jerk her mount back into life. At the first kick it spluttered unpromisingly. She fiddled in its innards, opening the choke a little and trying sweet thoughts whilst stroking its petrol tank fondly a couple of limes. 'Perhaps instead of a man, I could live with you?' she said. Her bike would not be an equal of course. but a well-treated vassal - just like a man in fact. A couple more effortful kicks still produced no real signs of life.
She knew that its failure to start was not really a mechanical hitch. True a motor engineer might look at it afterwards and say. 'Oh, the sproggle pin's worked loose', but the deeper question was, 'Who had made the sproggle pin work loose?' No, this was spiritual. It was a war between her and the insolent and uncurtailed fairies who lived in the rocks between her and fate. She knew too that both this motorcycle and her defiant leather were very closely linked to her pride and arrogance.
Why were girls so weak? Why was she not a male as well as a female? Why did she not have a big penis like men, to gently caress everything which obstructed her? Why did women feel so incomplete alone and only able to fulfil their ambitions through the agencies of men? She would have to use her clitoris to gently caress with. This was her penile missile, her male assault gun. She felt it stiffen and elongate and she imagined it to be larger and more throbbing than it was, ready to attack and destroy things like males did with their penises. Her whipped-up tensions were demanding release.

With the scenes tumbling round in his head, he darted out to by three pads of paper, a cake and a bottle of milk. He scribbled rapidly. Hitler visits the parliament building with Gustl, remarks on the confusion of architectural styles betraying the lack of clear principles and direction and the grandiose emptiness reflecting perfectly the stupefying banality and insincere declamations of its members. Stephanie chooses a dress and talks with her friend about a party. On abuilding site Adolf is punched and chased off for refusing to join a trades union. He mulls over the discrepancy between socialism's golden words of fraternity and altruism on the one hand and its deeds of menace and terror on the other. He bumps into seedy Jews in grubby caftans running brothels and sees in the Jewish-owned newspapers the sick ideas of liberal mindedness which seem to support all the contentionist and arrogant sub-factions of society to the detriment of the industrious and lawful backbone of good citizens. They were full too of fatuous articles, for instance, proclaiming that some slimy philosopher- unheard of the week before - had the miracle answer to all the country's problems.

Simon chewed black oval liquorice sweets which resembled goat droppings and wrote madly, trying to put down each line before he lost it.

Penises would stub themselves helplessly against this tantalising defence and fail to penetrate the thick double layer under her pubis where the front zip's lower end was embedded beneath an extra strengthening fillet. She put on the bronze-clasped belt. Sheslid her hands over her taut leather curves in gratified delight and oscillatedher hips in defiance of that triumvirate of tyrannical males, no of all males and the whole world.
Leather had become an outward extrapolation of her willful pride and the fury incurred by her reversals. It was made for her and she for it. It was her right and unique spiritual gallows. It was symbolic of her essence and an expression of her dark alliances thereunder. On her behalf it seemed to say, 'Look at my brave and dazzling mistress in her sexy tough black leather. She challenges you all to dare to oppose her.'
Undressing, she saw that the brown pensile outpouchings in front of her armpit had shrunk to small reddish spots.

This feels like it's overthinking it; "nice girl falls for bad boy, bad boy turns out to be sad and probably have family drama, nice girl can bring out the good in him!" is a ubiquitous romance trope and very popular. Two things can be based on the same idea without one being based on the other.
