Actually, I'm curious. I'm growing quite the stockpile of escorts from the z-store and events that have various experimental weapons, and I'm experimenting more with escort play. Is there a handy overview anywhere of which ones are better than others?

as far as experimental weapons go, if you have any of these - Experimental Proton Charge (Xindi-Reptilian Sistruus Escort), Soliton Wave Impeller ( Risian corvette (T6)), Phlogiston Projector (Maquis raider) or Voice of the Prophets (Bajoran Raider) - youre fine, those are the top tier choices, they differ in how they work: for example the Phlogiston Projector and Voice of the Prophets deal damage to multiple targets and work very well when you can clump enemies together in say, a Gravity Well. The others are preferred for single target damage.

I haven't flown the Cheirax but it's not a bad ship, it's just odd to have the pilot abilities on a 4/4 ship with no experimental weapon. You could do anything with it but 4 forward weapons is a bummer for cannons. You get the destroyer masteries with it though, that's pretty nice.

I just set ships up for fun anymore and 5 fore is nice for sets with a torpedo.

Really? And you can't switch em? How's the Delta Alliance Vanity look on her, then, that's basically faux-Romulan on some ships, depending on how it maps. Or the KDF Kelvin Divergency, but that's overpriced and also KDF-only.

Type 4 hull, what's normally the very pleasing smooth dark green.

Eugh, yeah, that type 4 looks terrible.

If you're KDF, rich, and don't mind red highlights, you'd probably get best results from KDF Divergence. I don't have it but someone did a few shots of other ships:

Horribly yeah, and that and the fact the singularity mechanic is dogshit is a big part of why I dont really use my rom ships much these days despite really liking their overall aesthetics. The klank textures are god awful too but at least they've had a few added lately thanks to the various legendary ships, even if not every boat can use them and they haven't extended the same courtesy to the legendary rom skins.

Thanks for this heads-up. I already have the Miradorn thanks to the Picard Bundle, so my choice for a Pilot Maneuvers ship would be one of the others or the Deimos. From the wiki it looks like the Deimos is closer to the Legendary Defiant (Destroyer/Warship, same console layout, similar hull cap and turn rate) while the D4x is the only five-fore-weapons BoP and has a Lieutenant Universal/Temporal Operative (too low?), but like the Z-Store M'Chla it's got a regular Battle Cloak instead. I know that the La Sirena isn't necessarily meta but the idea of having both Commander Tactical/Pilot and a Commander Universal station so that I can have GW3... I do like the sound of the Jellyfish's combination of Commander Science/Pilot and the turn rate.

Play the exchange. Find some commodity that you’re comfortable that you know the value of and check it a few times a day. Buy when you see them cheap, sell for a profit, reinvest that.

Buying keys during a sale is an easy one but not the most lucrative.

If you're on during the Q's Winter Wonderland event you can do the grind for Ornaments (up to 500 per stack) and during the summer event for Lohlunat Favors (up to 999 per stack) for off-season resale.

This is a good way to get seed money, but anything that involves grinding for something you sell isn't going to be how you actually make money on the exchange. Done right you can just wash credits back and forth in the exchange, buying poo poo when it's low and selling when it's higher. Generally, I prefer to avoid the seasonal stuff even for buying during peak just because the cycle is so long - if I have 500m sunk into lolnuts that's money that's basically locked up for months. I do better buying items that area bit more volatile with shorter cycles. I mentioned the keys because they're pretty easy to time for someone who's just getting into the market. Wait until a key sale, drop all your cash, then sell them off a few days or a week after the sale when the prices have normalized. Use the time in between to watch how ships, doff packs, lockbox traits, etc move around so you can spot when someone is unloading a thing for quick cash.

A lot of the time you can also make a quick buck waiting to spot someone unloading a bunch of a thing at a small discount and then re-selling them at a few credits less than the going rate. Keys just spiked to 9.4, but a week or so ago I caught someone putting batches of 10 up on the exchange for 9m per when they were running around 9.2. I bought all I could, then spent the next week or so dropping them on the exchange as singles in groups of 3-5 for 9.15. Quick 150k profit per key, not great, but in the volume I was moving it was an easy 10m or so.

some events like the upcoming Red Alerts can give spec points but the best source is still Admiralty, Federation in particular. Their missions usually have a higher exp payout than the other factions and the 10/10 ToD reward are 2 spec points (or 2x2800 dilithium if youre at max)

As Teron said, it's Fed admiralty.

But there's a chance you won't need quite so many. When they re-ran the Gamma recruit this last time they dropped their requirement from 90 spec points spent down to 45 spec points spent. Hopefully they'll do something similar for the Temporal recruit.

Also the typical mess of marks, flarks, crafting mats, a permanent 20% Admiralty xp bonus, and a gold doff that gives you 5% bonus xp. The rep gear improvement is the biggest thing, but unlocking all the possible recruit rewards gives new alts a sizeable head start. With a few mark bonus pools and some care when opening the mark boxes, you can get enough marks to get just about all your reps to T5 on a new alt without running any TFOs.

2nding if you need Starship Traits unlocked on any type of ship now is the time to do it. 6 normal xp runs gives enough ship xp to unlock the trait even if starting at 0 so double will make it even faster. You don't even need to equip your ship decently because usually there's one or two people in each run that can steamroll everything because powercreep is a thing.

Sometimes? The last two or three years have been mostly Disco content for antagonists, but that takes place in "modern" STO so there's the usual mix of canon ships and STO originals, with old Trek cast folk tending to get the defiants and the vor'chas and whatever.

A little belated, but nah the weekend/five day version of the event just gives the tech upgrade and spec point, which admittedly is still pretty nice for the zero effort it takes. They save the ship upgrade for the two week "oh poo poo we need a filler before the next event/mission is ready" version.

If you don't wanna shell out for a legendary or promo ship and liked the Miranda pick up the Clarke/Fleet Malachowski cruiser, it's a decent command cruiser with a hanger IIRC and it has access to all the Miranda parts so you can make it a Reliant.

The New Orleans isn't spectacular but IIRC it's pretty good and it's a fun lil baby Galaxy.

Sadly the Legendary Excelsior, which is a good ship, is locked in the single worst bundle and you should never buy it. It's a drat shame. The normal fleet Excelsior is...usable. Branching out into the command abilities help. Concentrate Firepower 3 is incredible for toprs, Overwhelm Emitters is decent filler, and Call Emergency Artillery is solid now I believe.

As for the Galaxy...yeah no the devs have something against it. It's just bad. Nothing is so bad it's unusable, but it's just not a great ship. The only okay ones are the horrible All Good Things 3 nacelle monstrosity.

Legendary Defiant is great, fleet Defiant is trash and you should not get it.

The Fleet Nebula, while not amazing, is very tough for a science ship and still gets Temporal Operative abilities so I think if you love it and want a science ship, it's very usable.
