the issue people seem to be dancing around (although people engage it obliquely) is that we have these platforms that serve as the public commons but are anything but. There's no control over what gets put out, only sudden reactions by companies reacting to wherever the greatest amount of financial pressure comes from. That needs to be changed -- most countries outside the US, Russia, and China aren't able to do it on their own. Big tech just invented this poo poo and never thought through the social ramifications because why would they? There's money to be made.
