Since I regenned I've been having a lot of (frustrating) fun getting used to new loadouts. Stim rules for popping at the start of a match and closing the distance to the enemy before they know what's going on, or for chasing people down to get an execution. I am also godawful with the eva-8 even though thats what I primarily ran in TF1. I keep dying to alternators from halfway across the map.

I still haven't figured out how to record gifs on PC without putting a shitload extra stress on my GPU/CPU so sadly, I do not have a gif of me Vortex Shielding bullets from 2 Legions back into them and the Scorch right next to them. Killed 1 Legion and the Scorch outright and doomed the other Legion with like 1/4 eject bar left. I hope they never patch out the Vortex glitch it just turns Ion into such a hard counter to Legion. especially as a salve to how frustrating going up against a Ronin is when you're Ion. e: strangely enough out of all the salt I've gotten for everything else I do (Eva-8, cloak, pilot sentry, etc.) I've never had anyone freak out at me for dooming their Legion 3 seconds after they encounter me.

Ive wanted a semi auto gun with good hipfire for forever and been sad there wasnt one but someone was using just the hammond semi auto pistol with phase shift and got like 15 pilot kills, that seems ridiculous but I have to try it now

FrothyOmen says the Hammond is really good except the hipfire could be a touch better. I've never used it, but I'm inclined to believe him since his take on the guns I DO understand aligns with mine 99% of the time.

Kelp Me! posted:I hope they never patch out the Vortex glitch it just turns Ion into such a hard counter to Legion. especially as a salve to how frustrating going up against a Ronin is when you're Ion. I kind of agree. It does a crazy amount of damage but as a Legion all you have to do is not fire anymore when you see the shield come up and (better yet) don't try to engage an Ion one-on-one. I think it's fine for there to be things in a multiplayer game that require you to go "I'm not loving with that" and run away.

Actually, putting players in no-win situations because of loadouts they picked blindly is really bad. There's nothing about Legion that says "this guy needs to be utterly helpless against one kind of Titan in all 1v1 situations".

I've had like two Legions total that don't immediately fire into my vortex shield, they just spin up and let me waste my energy shield. Ion is an absolute hard counter but that's because Legions are feeding Ion the ammo.

I mean, I've done the Legion Vs Ion thing enough to know that I'm not completely helpless: You can Long Range Power Shot at it's feet, and the splash damage will hurt the Ion. In Long Range Mode you can shoot the shoulder or feet of the Ion. Legion has the precision to sneak some damage on those small areas. The PROBLEM is that the Ion will be evading, and he will catch a few bullets in the Vortex Shield because it's not realistic to expect every single shot to unerringly hit those tiny moving areas without nicking the shield a few times, and then the Ion pops those bullets off at your feet and blow up half your life. Off of a handful of bullets. Which is ridiculous. It's a bug and it should be fixed.

Wowporn posted:the five way splitter melts them real fast I should try this, haven't been getting that much mileage out of zero-point tripwire. It's good for harassing pilots but then again so is pilot sentry and I switched out in favor of spare battery to great effect so I'm slowly learning how to handle Scorches and to a lesser extent Tones as Ion, but Ronins still make me go "oh gently caress" and it's doubly frustrating because you can tell half the time the other guy is just mashing melee and flailing around with no actual direction. On that note, any tips for dealing with Tones and Ions, as Ion? Scorch isn't that tough to handle (stay the hell away and never get caught in a corridor) and I've never had trouble with Northstars, but other Ions and Tones can be tricky.

You'll be constantly ready to fire, so the Ion has to keep Vortex up or risk taking a ton of damage. By the time the gun shield is gone, the Ion will either have run away or run out of Vortex or engaged in a way that allows you to fight back. Legion tears Ion apart. You just gotta be patient and not blindly fire into one.

I mean get it on whichever you're more comfortable playing shooters on. I have it on PC but played the PS4 version at my brother's place and it felt terrible because im one of those keyboard and mouse snobs. I wasn't able to do cool poo poo like slide past people while pumping bullets into them or do sick grapple stunts with an analog. I have been playing overwatch on PC with a controller for giggles because there are enough characters where positioning is more important than precision aim, but I can't stand in in this game. It's purely personal preference, there are always enough people to get a game going on PC, and its not only turbonerd pros playing either.

The real answer is to buy a XIM4 so you can use keyboard/mouse and play against a lot of the PS4 player base that attempts to play this like CoD.

It is also truly a joy to watch people realize that just because the dome shield does damage doesn't mean you can't go through it anyway I love lurking around newly-dropped titans and titan-punching their pilots as they try to make their way to their titan and one of my new Favorite Things is when I manage to get them while they're inside their dome shield, but before they get in their titan. e: plus odds are if you can kill them before they reach their titan, it'll go into auto-mode before they can respawn and make their way back again for some easy target practice

If you've thought that the Grapple was a noob trap tactical that only scrubs used I would suggest watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mD9WF_xXLgc Turns out it makes a pretty good Stim replacement. Also, new map lines are being discovered by serious Grapplers, including a new start to Crash Site that gets them up the hill in about 5 seconds. So you might want to give this tactical another chance. To whit: https://gfycat.com/DearestTotalKob Megaman's Jockstrap fucked around with this message at 22:31 on Jan 10, 2017 |
