Natural Laxative posted:Went and saw Elysium today and during the commercials before the movie they had a music video and its driving us crazy what it was. All we can remember about it {was before the movie after all} was that is was a love song, and the singer was wearing a black leather jacket and singing in front of monitors playing footage of couples. I know its not a lot to go on, but figured I'd try a shot in the dark. White guy? Black guy? Blonde hair or brown? R&B or pop/rock?

White guy, with dark hair, could have either been black or brown. In the video it almost seemed he was in a studio, but everything was dark except him and the monitors, at one point he pulls on his jacket to emphasize the lyric he's singing. If only I could recall any of the lyrics, it would be much easier haha. I know I'm asking for a needle in a haystack.

I saw a music video once on youtube of an early electronic single, very early 90s rave style music. I think it was from England, and it was something like "rave" and "generation" or something similar. Anyone?

Nah it was the name of the song. The video was a bunch of people dancing around. Very mid 90s techno feel. Thanks, though.

This is embarrassing, and probably a recent pop song I'm just blanking on. Some part of me wants to blame it on Nickelback for some reason but I don't think it's even close? Anyway, all I have to go on is two short segments that are stuck in my head: Traaaaain,, da da da da, da, da, da da Da da Da da, Da da Da da I'm pretty sure it's not actually "train" the guy's singing, that would be way too easy. I just want to know so I can exorcise these drat fragments. 90s Cringe Rock fucked around with this message at 22:37 on Aug 16, 2013 |

Recently I heard, but wasn't able to see, a TV commercial featuring music that sounded kind of like Tobacco (Black Moth Super Rainbow). I don't know what the commercial was for or what it looked like, but I've heard it twice now, so I know I didn't just imagine it. Googling "Tobacco commercial" of course, isn't helpful, and I know there was an IBM commercial with BMSR from years ago but that's definitely not it either. It could have been Tobacco, something similar sounding, or something only vaguely similar that I mentally filled in the blanks as Tobacco, but I have heard it twice (in the past month) in two different locations, so I know I didn't imagine the whole thing.

Two songs that Soundhound didn't know, and googling the lyrics turns up nothing. Sad, Patsy-Cline-flavored song with a twangy, classic country sound. "I must confess I've done my best to keep my thoughts away from you. I'm finding out, beyond a doubt, It ain't an easy thing to do. Just when I find this heart of mine is truly on the mend, I close my mind, it's no surprise, I've got you on my mind again." Upbeat, high-pitched female vocals, folky rhythm acoustic guitar and drums. "Here's a spell of friendship, here's a nasty secret, I feel like going nowhere. We're going nowhere He's a little fighter, wants a glass of water you can catch him going nowhere He's going nowhere. Here at the garden party I got so high, And I had so much fun I laughed till I cried. When my chair leaned back I felt the words flow through me I have to leave I'm going nowhere. I'm going nowhere. Behind the castle I'll wear daisies on my head for you. Oh, but your bed is hard and bad luck seems to sleep with you And I need half a chance at something" Also, both from Hit & Miss, so you can find it on Netflix if you want the tune. Season 1, Episode 5, first one starts at 35 minutes, second one at 39 minutes.

Ugh, ok, so this is one of those super vague ones, but I've had the opening to a song stuck in my head for ages, and its really bugging me because its someone that I know quite well / like, but cant identify. Its some sort of electro, think Har-Mar Superstar, Junior Senior, Felix da Houscat etc. It starts with a major key bit going dun dun didledi dur, didledi dur, didledi dur (with that being descending notes) on what in my head is synth, could be guitar, and then there's a 'cool synthesized voice', says either 'This thing is started' or 'Lets get it started' and on the 'started' the 'dun dun didledi dur' bit comes back in, and he says: 'Something something down low' and then the next time he speaks his voice is autotuned (I think?) going really high pitched, stepping up on each beat? Finishing with 'Tonight! UH Ha ha!' (Which sounds really similar to the AH HA HA! from Dragostea din tei). Obviously, as ever, it feels super stupid to describe a song, but that's really the best I can do. Help me Obi Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

I've always thought the note or chord progression for the part that goes "we do what we like, and we like what we do!" sounds exactly like something, but I can't think of what it is. But it seems incredibly familiar. Any ideas? It could be for a commercial from a Milton Bradley board game, their jingles always finished with the same three-note progression as Party Hard, usually in the same key (F major).

Really appreciate it if someone can identify this song for me as it has been driving me crazy...The song is an rnb song from I presume the 90's and is sung by a black guy with a really distinct accent (maybe Jamaican?) set is white pillars with lots of women dancing around and such. The key part I remember is the dudes distinct dancing style, with on move looking like he is trying to climb a ladder. I loved the video and would love to watch it again on youtube. Don't have any lyrics unfortunately. Any ideas goons?

I don't think this is what you're looking for, but just in case - Mr Loverman by Shabba Ranks has pillars in the background (kinda), dancing girls and a strong accent. He doesn't dance much, but when he does it's pretty distinctive. An even longer shot is Boombastic by Shaggy which has less pillars but more dancing. You can probably follow the related YouTube links to tons of other popular reggae stuff from the 90s but you said RnB so that might be the wrong direction anyway. Also, the similar artists feature on Last.fm can be really handy. Good tip for the thread in general, that.

At Uni the other day I saw a song on the TV at the cafe that I remember hearing when I was little. It might have been something about hurting somebody, and the music clip had a guy with picture frames with the guy signing in them. This was probably a pretty popular song, and it reminded me of stuff by Crowded House and might have been made in the late 80s or early 90s. I really want to know what it is, I was in a hurry and couldn't get the name of it or any more info, I know its not much to go on.

I'm thinking of two classical songs, both made in response to some other piece of art or literature. One is a song a composer made after reading about a story where all light left the world and all of earth goes mad burning things for their light. Or maybe the piece was just written about that concept without being inspired by a story? Another is a song written about a painting of a lone castle on an island in the middle of a misty lake that is empty except for a lone boat on its waters. I wish I could remember them better to give more hints, but all I remember is that they were inspired that way and are classical pieces.

OK this is kind of a longshot but I remember this really cool trippy video that used to play on late night MTV2 in the UK around 2006/7 and I cant remember the artist or song name for the life of me.
