I played AA in my latest playthrough, but at the Red Forest it just wouldn't stop crashing so I couldn't finish. So if it doesn't crash, it's a great mod.

While the Stalker 2 site is probably google translated, they have a massive discord following (GSC) so can easily get all the cheap va they want from people by sending them vodka, kebab and krokodil, not to mention passable english VA from me, for the above.

Why did it take me so long to realize the porno mags were helping me repair my gun hahaha. The new bloodsucker AI is amazing and actually made me scream at my computer. I was at a distance trying to spot it with my binocs because they usually decloak at a distance and you can get a good fix on em but no not only did he aggro me but he loving took his time sneaking up on me then uncloaked right in front of me while i was zoomed in. The bloodsucker then kill itself in an anomaly but everything up to that point was terrifying.

GSC World announced they've moved from UE4 to UE5 for STALKER 2! https://twitter.com/stalker_thegame/status/1425472082586980357 UE5 has some really great lighting changes, which I expect is what they mainly want to take advantage of. I doubt they are doing anything with hi-res assets or 'megascans'. Might even be the 1st AAA game released in UE5!

Oh cool we do have a STALKER thread still. I just finished all three vanilla (or close enough, I had the patch mods installed for SOC and CS) and it's still mindblowing to me that every fps rpg style game I've played (and every mod) has been trying to find STALKER. Lmao with Fallout especially, with the mods that either just add gameplay mechanics or straight up rip the weapon models; the sawn-off in particular triggered my nostalgia lmaogently caress SNEEP posted:Sorry, I meant AAA game as in AAAaaaaaaaaaaahh I had multiple saves in Clear Sky with aaaaa aaaaa aaaaa as file names

One of the big advantages of UE5 is that it lets you import UE4 projects - though I haven't personally done this so I don't know how much work you lose by doing so, knowing how slick Epic's tools are I would guess a fairly large fraction of in-development UE4 games are going to move to 5. There are potentially still improvements for STALKER though beyond the new lighting system; the idea behind UE5 is that you don't have to bake your models down to lower poly versions, so they can use the source high poly models for everything.

Recently started the original, my first stalker game. This is a lot more combat heavy than I expected, I thought it would be more sneaking around and picking my fights but I can barely walk two feet before getting jumped by packs of bandits. For example, after the fight at the start of the Garbage zone, I got attacked by two guys as soon as I left the guys you help, then after the fight in the hangar, six more as soon as I walked out towards the next objective. Also thought it would be more open world but there's impassable barbed wire fences (which I'm pretty sure I could climb over and I'm not even a STALKER irl) and loading screens all over. I'm getting the hang of it now and starting to enjoy it after turning the difficulty back to the default, not sure why the OP recommends playing on the hardest because I consider myself reasonably competent at shooters and it still took me several tries to beat that first fight in the Garbage on the hardest setting. Anyway, I was wondering if there's a way to stop my PDA icon from popping up every two minutes with no new info but everything in the Diary section reset to unread status. It's pretty annoying. The only mods I'm running are the community patch and some shaders or something. Also, is there a mod that will give me a "loot everything except the gun but strip the ammo out of it" button because it's a lot of annoying extra clicking having to manually check every gun for ammo and then drop it to stay under the weight limit. The original is really lacking a ton of the QoL stuff from CoP but there might be some mods that help. It's kinda open world because the engine is running stuff off screen so you could have friends getting killed in the level you just left but yeah it was very limited but the other ones improve that a ton. Combat is wonky because armor allows you to be a bullet sponge but you'll learn to aim for the head of humanoids and that'll make combat easy. If it's your first time playing stalker i really won't turn the difficulty too high because there's a lot of unique game play that doesn't tie into any other game. I played the poo poo outta SoC and clear sky but i'd never go back because CoP just had way too many awesome changes. I think someone rebuilt SoC in the CoP engine which would be way more enjoyable.

I think the difficulty thing is because, if you can avoid being shot, the game is actually easier than the lower difficulties because the enemies have the same health as you and do the same damage. So if you avoid them hitting you, you can drop them faster. The game is sort of open world, but I guess is limited by how big they could make each map. So you'll have big areas that are only connected at choke points.

The player takes reduced damage on on novice in comparison to master. In SoC specifically the player's weapons also do more damage on novice than they do on master. Lower difficulties are just straight up easier. The problem is that Stalker punishes you for run and gun gameplay in an absurdly opaque way.

There's a post that breaks down the numbers and difficulty changes here: https://www.reddit.com/r/stalker/comments/curcq5/addressing_the_silly_master_difficulty_myth_in/ I've had a few friends who have been put off from the game because everyone told them to play on master, it sucked, and they stopped.

That's why i like anomaly so much because they have those fine tuning menus that you can change, soon as i got a good suit i changed the damage reduction values. Does anyone know if the radio sounds in anomaly mean anything? I got an RF receiver just because i thought i was missing poo poo but i can't seem to tune it to get anything when i hear the random radio sounds.

The RF receiver is for those quests where they ask you to find a missing patrol. You basically go to the location with the frequency they give you and search around, with the signal letting you know you're close as it gets less static-y. You can technically do these quests without the receiver since it just requires you to find some bodies on the map, but it's way easier to stumble across them on smaller maps. Do not take these quests on Darkscape, for instance, it can be like finding a needle in a haystack even with the receiver.

Ugh there needs to be a courier system in anomaly because even with a pure freight build i gotta take multiple fast travels after big fights. My fav was fast traveling to the loner base at cordon which is my home base then being super overloaded with just a pistol encountering a merc hit squad waiting in the adjacent building haha. I thought i could sell off all the gun/armor parts but no! You use them to make upgrade kits not just for repairs!

The first RF mission i took was in darkscape haha, it wasn't too bad but i had to clear out the majority of the mutant population trying to find the drat thing.

Darkscape is just a waste of a map. It’s twice as large as it needs to be, takes forever to walk through, and at least for me in Anomaly the artifacts always seem to spawn underground and screw me out of even getting anything for my trouble. I would say I go out of my way to avoid it but I don’t—it’s so far off the beaten path that you never have to go there if you don’t want to.

Darkscape makes more sense when you know that it was a test map for vehicles IIRC. As it is in game (and on foot), it's one of my least ventured zones since there's so many stretches of nothingness between points of interest.Arghy posted:I'm pretty sure you gotta take the quest to spawn the bodies though as that's how most quests work but i'll be wandering through a level then i'll hear radio static which sounds a lot like a prompt to take out my receiver and start scanning but it could just be ambient noise too though. Yeah you do have to accept the quest for the objective to spawn, however not having the receiver isn't a hard stop preventing you from taking the quest or accomplishing it without one, if you were looking to save some money or inventory space. I've had luck doing it this way on Meadow where the bodies are usually not too off the beaten path and it's small enough to do a quick and comprehensive loop.
