Honestly, you should sell one of those or give it to a friend. 1920x1080x75Hz is not a difficult target for a 780 by any stretch of the imagination, and two will be worth a lot less than cash-in-pocket or making someone's day.

Because of my work and penchant for traveling, I only spend about an entire week at home, spread out across a month. Next month I have vacation and will be home for a total of 3 days. And then when I am home I am playing a game that can only use one GPU. I already beat the games that can utilize SLI (Crysis 3, Metros) and there seems nothing is coming that is ambitious save for Watchdog which I bet will run just fine with one 780 at 1600p. I have this badass gaming PC, yet I seem to do most of my gaming away from home on a rMBP. So for me it makes sense to sell one and use the money to pay for an iPad that I will take with me when traveling. Or sell both, get a 780 Ti, and pocket the rest. I only say this because I don't think it'd be worth the PSU and heat alone to run 780 SLI at that resolution, not even considering that they won't be utilized fully.

First time I ever had a so-so experience with Amazon. Their price dropped slightly on the same 770 I bought from them, so I asked about a price match. And they simply don't do that, even with their own stuff (with a few exceptions). I was on the fence anyways, so I'll just be returning it outright and selling the other, which actually is new as well from them but slightly out of their return policy. I had originally bought a used one but flipped it for profit. I noticed now that you get a Watch Dogs code with that same card. So if I return this, buy another, resell the NIB one for a slight loss, sell the watchdogs code for some of its value, I may come out on top with a 780ti with no money in. Of course all this to just step backwards. Which is weird. But focusing on the long game I guess. Is the blower reference style cooler better in this case because of future SLI? Hum. Well I guess I shouldn't feel so bad. I did just order from Tiger Direct because they are advertising the code and they are at the sale price. I guess I have one last opportunity to decide if I'm going to keep the 770 SLI setup and just get a free code out of it. Or return/sell it and sell my other as well. I already setup the return of one to amazon because not pricing matching your own website during the return period is kind of lame. Ugh I just don't know. It is a significant drop in performance I can't ignore. At the very least, I'll save some money and get a free game code. Yeah perhaps not. After a new PSU, who knows when I'd be ready to drop another $700 (or so) on another card. Oh well. Also, let's be honest: most people are gonna replace their cards every 1-2 years, which means even with a mining card you're pretty likely to replace it before longevity really comes into play. It's like people overclocking their CPUs and wondering if the "lowered life" of 7 years instead of 10 will really matter. e; Not sure where you're looking or seeing 290's for $200, but at least on Amazon all the <$300 ones are the reference cooler (blower) design. Which is terrible. Like, sounds-like-a-jet-engine yet still throttles due to 95C temps terrible. Don't get one (or if you do, know that you're going to need to either accept sub-par performance or replace the cooler), especially with decent 3rd party ones going for not too much more. Just check the warranty details on the particular card brand you're looking at and go for it. poo poo, at $200 you could buy of them for the price of a single new 290 just in case one dies (and CrossFire in the meantime). Anyone have a Sapphire 280X Toxic? I bought one a few weeks ago from eBay. The card was orignially purchased new in December and the original owner claims to have used it very lightly. It has started artifacting in-game and even when using non-demanding applications like Chrome. I have a Corsair HX750 PSU and a Sabertooth P67 mobo, and I did a driver sweep and reinstalled Catalyst 14.4 drivers first thing. I've been doing some light reading and it seems to be a common issue with the card. I have tested it with OCCT and the only way I get no errors is if I downclock the clock from 1150 MHz to 1100 and the memory from 1600 MHz to 1500, but I really don't think I should have to gimp the thing for it to function properly. I want what I payed for. I've already started the RMA process with Althon Micro but I just wanted to get some opinions before I spend $20 on processing fees (since I have no receipt) and return shipping. Is it worth sending back, or am I going to get another bum card in return? Should I just suck it up and downclock it? Edit- Yeah, it's likely been mined with, but seems that a lot of people blame the memory modules on this particular card. Updated the card's BIOS, too. No luck. Sapphire may have pushed it a bit past realistic limits. 43% Burnt fucked around with this message at 06:54 on May 14, 2014 |
