I've been meaning to pick it up for a while. While we're talking about Ridley Scott sci-fi films, does anyone know if the new release of Blade Runner is a new transfer or if they just used the same thing from the 07 release? I'm assuming it's the same, but I just want to be sure. I have the 07 DVD, but not the blu-ray.

I ordered the BD for her to have for Thanksgiving (she and her mom watch it every year) and Amazon screwed it up. I looked at other retailers (Barnes and Noble carries it, but for $10 more, big surprise there), etc. A couple have it but show different cover art than the "Anniversary Edition". Does anyone know if they issued two different versions?

Nabbed the French Ultimate Edition of Phantom of the Paradise today at Half Price Books (still $25, but that's fair.) Why did we let them beat us to this? Why is this movie not universally acknowledged as one of the all time great rock musicals? Never mind, it's beautiful.

The Anchor Bay BD uses the old HD master used for the Divimax DVD eight years ago; technology has gotten a lot better since then. As for Night/Dawn, "Night" is public domain so they'd just have to get a good print of it to do a release, and I hope someone puts out a better BD of Dawn. The Anchor Bay release doesn't do the film justice.

I do hope Scream Factory takes a look at the movie once the deal with Twilight Time ends, I believe it's like 3 years or something though so it'll be a while. Also Fright Night because I want a goddamn Fright Night blu ray.

I don't get why the Ultimate Edition of Dawn isn't on Blu-Ray. I eventually caved in and bought the release that's out now because it was cheap and it's my favorite movie, but there's got to be some interest.

That isn't to say that the last home release was a proper version either (but it was a million times better than the blue filter the current Blu-Ray recieved) (from a HDTV rip) (from a VHS workprint rip) Call Me Charlie fucked around with this message at 05:50 on Nov 18, 2012 |

It's worth noting that some guys over at the originaltrilogy.com preservations subforum are color-correcting the Blu-Ray, amongst other tweaks like grain restoration. Sounds like it's got better blacks than the HDTV version too. Not the best case scenario of a new scan but probably the best solution at the moment. You can't get it there, but at least it'll be out in the wild sometime soon. Those guys are a bit crazy sometimes, but they're fighting the good fight with things like this. feedmyleg fucked around with this message at 07:42 on Nov 18, 2012 |

I have every Scream Factory Blu-ray released so far, and they are all top notch. Halloween III and Terror Train look especially good. Based on this, I would assume that Day of the Dead will look better than the current Anchor Bay Blu. I love all the titles they announced, but was really hoping for Hell Night or Without Warning to get an announcement. Hopefully soon.
