I just thank god that there are so many drat episodes from the good old days. And that I smoke enough pot to make the ones I've heard seem new after a year or so.

Speaking of dermatology, I've been wondering something. In the Carolla era, Drew had mentioned several times that skin problems were impossible to diagnose over the phone, and mentioned that people with problems should photograph their outbreaks and email or fax them to the station. Adam immediately pointed out what a terrible and possibly illegal idea it was to have teenagers taking pictures of their genitalia and sending them to the station.

Did this idea ever go anywhere?

Listening to an old DAG episode today, I was really disappointed to hear Drew express that he has problems with making gay marriage legal, because it would tell society that homosexuality was socio-normative. He later said that he shouldn't have said that, but it made me sad.

Gotta Herd On?
Honestly with the old episodes there is more or less always going to be enough for me to be entertained. Even when halfway through an episode I remember that I've listened to it at some point in the last four years I keep listening anyway. And I more or less only listen to no-guest shows; if I start listening to guest shows I've got enough for practically forever.

I listen to the last half hour or so of the new show sometimes when I'm driving to work, but it's just not good. I think that if they had Drew, Mike and less interference from above (eg: were allowed to play drops and do all the 'bad radio' things that made the show fun) it could still be entertaining. Not old school entertaining but still good. As it is now though, it's just painful most of the time.

edit: What you mentioned about the gay-marriage thing is another thing that strikes me listening to old shows. I'm 23 now so for most of my sex-having life plan-B has been available (at least where I lived) but listening to the shows back when there was a battle going on is enlightening. And it's obvious how society's view on gay people has changed. Not enough, but it's changed from a time when a guy that I would consider to be very reasonable (Dr. Drew) was making statements like that to now, where several states are legalizing gay marriage. So yeah, it's not great that he said that, but he was far from alone in thinking that at the time and it's great that he's come around. I also wonder how much his opinion was effected by the fact that he spends/spent a huge amount of time talking to abuse-survivor gay people as opposed to the more emotionally healthy from-the-womb gay people.

Dr. Bruce would also quickly dismiss dermatology calls as worthless.

I recently heard an early ep where gay marriage was briefly discussed. I don't remember which.
Early Drew initially seemed to have hesitance on the topic, but then within the same breath supported it. I think he said the gay Loveline caller base biased his opinion. Adam then said that many of the gay Loveline callers had their sexuality messed with by their uncle in the basement when they were 5 and were projecting their issues.

He said he and Drew could tell a normal homosexual "born gay" (accompanied by a drop of Adam singing the "Born Free" song only with lyrics "Born Gay") vs "turned gay". Then a rant about how Adam wishes he was gay and how much better his life would be if only he was gay with Jimmy.

Well, my disappointment with the whole thing probably also stems from the concept they oft talked about, where you only get upset by things they say if they happen to correlate to something without your own life.

Paraphrasing, but in the same episode a caller came on asking about Drew's response to a missed period call, and Adam summed it up like this:

"It's like if we had an automotive show, and someone called in to ask why their tire went flat.

We would say 'Well, you could have run over a nail, someone could have let the air out of your tires, or some homeless guy could have shoved a stiletto through your sidewall.'

Yet, if someone ran over a porcupine once, they'd call in and ask why we didn't grill them about porcupines; because if it happened to them it would be on their minds constantly."

God that is fantastic, if only we could have those days back. Sadly, even if for some insane reason Adam were to come back to Loveline, it wouldn't be the same, he's changed as well.

Would still be orders of magnitude better than this dreck though.

I was looking through my old laptop the other day and I noticed that I had the show podcast downloaded for several weeks right before "Seemoan" started. When I get home later, I'll see if I can make that available. You're most likely gonna want the ones before Westwood One merged with poo poo Global which I think would put them around September/October.

The funny thing is the 90s episodes have in many ways aged better than the 2004-2005 era, because they didn't really talk about technology or current events that much. I'm listening to 2004-1-27 and Adam has had comments on Janet Jackson as potentially boring in the Superbowl halftime, hybrid cars, and how we will never see a service where you can watch old movies with the click of a button.

Here we go, here's an episode from 8-18-2011 (no guest, just Mike and Drew).

http://www.mediafire.com/?6e5om52533wk323

I don't know what it contains but I'm almost positive it's before the show took a dive. I've probably got about 70 more episodes scattered around from April to September, some with guests, some without if you're interested (send me a PM). My favorite new episodes are from when Mike just started back around spring/summer of 2010. I have fond, fond memories of driving down the southern California coast at like 10pm with some In N Out while listening to Mike and Drew do some great Loveline on San Diego's 91X. Alas all of it is gone now and only remains as faint memories of some of the best days of my life thus far.

Adam: Oh in December? Then you should be golden for at least another few months.

Then only time I was creeped out by Adam was when he would tell stories about him and the Weeze watching their other roommate have sex.

My parents loved that call as well.

June 4, 2002 with Gentry & Dida the "vampiressess" is a good showcase of Adams ability to tell people how ridiculous they are but make them laugh at it. Drew is a pussy as per usual and never calls them on their BS like when one said after she drank a cup of her friends blood she felt a chemical change move through here etc. They both talk about near death experiences and how they love death to which Adam asks "why don't you just kill yourself" in a monotone voice. Good show.

I remember hearing that story and it seemed more as if Adam wanted to steal the girl away from the Weeze.

When they would spy on their one lady's man roommate having sex; Weeze was small and would kneel down by the doorframe and Adam would peek from up top of the doorframe. He said Weeze was frequently checking to make sure Adam wasn't about to start jerking off over his head.

Anyone know which old show it was where a girl prank called in asking something about her "poobs"? And then Drew and Adam made her say words that rhymed with it because she said them like "ice coob". I'm listening to the 1/28/1996 show, it seems like the earliest show with Drew and Adam solo without Rikki. He definitely has his radio voice on, gives out the phone number multiple times and flies through the callers like Drew does when he's alone. He does do his first jab at junior colleges though and goes through some early rants. An interesting episode to listen to.
