notZaar posted:Not gen z, the children of millennials. Gen z+1, or gen AA if you like. You guys are shaping up to be forgotten like Gen X. War fighter generations are a weird thing. X came of age in Desert storm, then carried through to Mog, Serbia, and GWOT . A lot of Xers in higher up positions actually have military experience and a pretty grim view of humanity, they're most likely "forgotten" because they've gone far out of their way to avoid being discussed. I do a lot of work with very successful companies ran by Gen Xers and everytime I meet with their leadership I can pick up on any prior service they may have had, and those who haven't normally carry a similar demeanor because it's been ingrained in to their culture by someone who has. Most Gen Xers were born to the early-mid Boomers and didn't have the heavy parental involvement that Millennials and Gen Z are getting, so the reason people are getting spit on for getting that help is because to Gen Xers it's distasteful, they're still carrying the puritanical values of their grandparents, those who fought WW2 because the average Xers finds Boomers to be disgustingly self indulgent and were raised to revere the accomplishments of their grandparents. A lot of that has to do with the lingering self-hatred the average early boomer has for themselves for not proving themselves worthy successors to the Kingdom they inherited from their parents, so they wanted to ensure their children wouldn't have these same failures, or they were just too career focused to spend much valued time with their own offspring. Best proof I have for this is something I've mentioned here before(I think), when I go to the VA or have a drink at the Legion, the old WW2/Korea guys will shoot the poo poo with dudes under 40 all day and address us as equals, but that 65-45 group that served from Vietnam through the inactivity period of the Cold War get a very standoffish attitude from them. There's a weird unspoken disappointment a lot of those older guys have for their children but an almost overwhelming acceptance they have for their grandchildren's.

While true, its odd how we see it effect on a larger scale than just one parent to their children, but instead across an entire generation. In the end it's all due to confirmation bias, it's still an intriguing thing to see played out right in front of you on a small scale
