The original Big Tuna.

Checking in way after the fact to defend my boy Cyan. The programmers made "Bushido" his unique combat ability because otherwise he'd write heartfelt letters to disarm your enemies. He is living proof the pen is mightier than the Atma Sword (two weapons that gain power as you mature).

I took the octopath less travelered,

And it made one-eighth the difference.
Cyan knows how to take his time.

Also I bought FF15 even though I won’t have time to play it until next month. Excited for all the HD food porn and fishing and I guess story and gameplay to a much lesser extent.

The music and visuals combined with the editing and ps2 era animations make it seem like a psychedelic nightmare. In that context, how is the actual game?

I'm Monster Huntering my way through the game with no UI, no numbers, no nothing, and it's great. The gameplay is actually quite good and if you aren't looking at stagger bars or damage percentages and poo poo, enemies actually have really good wind-ups and tells and I'm parrying like a pro. Not seeing your HP is also fine because you don't die when you hit 0, you just enter Critical status, where you can die, but you can also instantly eat a Phoenix Down. Not seeing your MP is a little different but the "no MP" animation is quick and blatant, and all you have to do is chug an Ether.

And the dungeon design is also good enough that you can mentally map it out with landmarks and not use a HUD or minimap at all.

I never thought about this but I think you're right. I just never noticed because Sabin never really left my party after that (crappy side trip to Thamasa notwithstanding).

A shame, though Bushido is absolutely a garbage tier ability and I always make Cyan my designated imp in World of Ruin after winning all the good imp gear because everyone else has something better to do.

The good change in the mobile version is making it so you just pick the sword move to use and Cyan charges that long before using it, instead of locking up the entire UI.

Hmm this is actually a good idea. I know I definitely enjoyed BOTW in Pro mode in a different way (sometimes I turned the HUD back on because it can hurt you to not know what's ready) but I think between the DLC and game updates and the massive performance boost on PC it might be worth replaying FF15.

The demo alone felt like I was playing a different game vs playing it at launch on an old PS4.

The thing with that track is the OST had some major audio issues across the board because whatever they were using messed up horribly so instruments were brought in way too early and overlapped and all that sort of thing.

Broken OST versus regular sounding in-game versions is surprisingly common, there were a handful of other games that had that problem too.

It's a game that has an incredible amount of potential that shine through constantly but it also is blatantly and seriously obvious how patched together and rushed it is so even though it does things well it's kind of easy to come away from it feeling like "if this had a sensible production schedule it would be something amazing."

Late stage symptoms of square disease is poor fashion sense, inability to use a belt properly, long production times, a good selection of jobs, and more money than anyone could possibly use.

I still have a ton of unfinished sidequests in XV, so my plan is to advance to chapter 9 (for the 3x hotel), then go back and polish everything else off... are there any super-duper quality of life features I want to get from 10-12 first? Or should I just plow through the story, then focus on doing the side content in ng+?

ApplesandOranges

The main thing you'd get is that Ignis gets access to Libra Elementia. Otherwise I don't think there's anything that new outside of new weapons and costumes from the last chapter.

How does the last chapter work, anyway? Does it plunk me back in the open world with everything unlocked after I finish out the story, or does it just make a completion save I use to start ng+?

Between that and the sassy birdwoman sidekick, this game looks intruiging. Though does it really have Secret of Mana’s attack meter and reduces it when you run?

Both. You can go back to the open world with all the stuff (and there are a couple things that only unlock after you finish), and you can still use the save to start NG+.
