They will absolutely have some before "a couple weeks" but you'll have to check stocks every morning and buy online for in-store pickup (assuming they are as popular as they think)

No, they won't - it's the university's Tech Store that happens to sell apple products, and I went up and asked them, they said they know for sure they aren't getting any and they've never gotten anything at release. Always within a few weeks. I think you misread or I misposted.

I expect the real Apple Store to be less of a problem and that's where I'm going to go tomorrow.

I'm not getting an iPad Pro but whenever I look at my iPad (2018) I feel so sad. The bezels that were totally fine before now look so bad after using my XS. I'm also finding that I pick up my iPad a lot and just stare at it for a few seconds expecting it to unlock.

That's my story. Sorry I don't have any shipment tracking updates.

Yep, I went from an Air 2 to iPad 2018 and noticed for about a day that the screen was a little worse, but have long since stopped noticing or caring. Screen is good, performance is good, and it's silly to spend the money for a new iPad Pro if you're just going to browse SA and watch Netflix on it. I can't imagine caring about the bezels, ha. I mean I don’t care about the bezels, it’s just super noticeable switching between a XS with no bezels to the iPad. It kinda gives me the same feeling I get when I see a 4:3 monitor or tv, just “wow this is ancient technology”.

It way way way less buggy, only real noticeable bug on mobile is flakey voice chat with the last update, but hopefully that will be fixed soon.

Just the market penetration alone on pubg mobile is fantastic compared to the xbox. Anyone with an Android or iPhone/iPad can play it. Almost all of my friends and friends of friends play it, we can almost always pull together a full squad. Compared to my one friend who would occasionally play it on the xbox (who is also my only friend with an XBox). And no friends who play it on PC because nobody I know has gaming PC.

That said you've got to keep your expectations in check, you're obviously not going to get the full PC or XBox experience, it is a mobile game after all. But between force touch and gyro controls it translates over really surprisingly well.

Just bring a battery pack, it absolutely sucks up the battery.

I never thought I'd ever say this about a mobile game, but I honestly think the touch controls are better than a controller would be. Especially with the gyro controls for aiming and force touch to fire.

It's also the only thing I ever use force touch on.

All I know is I'll be happy when SteamLink drops. Being able to play games pushed over my network is going to be awesome. That and the SteelSeries Nimbus will show up as generic Xbox controller for SteamLink.

SteamLink just had an update on beta and it looks like they are getting ready for general release. Apparently the big sticking point was being able to buy games directly using SteamLink. The new beta removed the ability to buy directly using credit/paypal and loading up the wallet.

Using it right now, reclined in EZ-Boy since I somehow hurt my neck getting out of the car  Some impressions (12.9”, 512 GB Space Grey, after owning/daily using the original 12.9” since launch). If you are triggered by effortposting and wank, get out while you still can

The first thing you notice when you take it out of the box is how light it is. It is shockingly light. It’s like a tiny classy magazine. This thing feels only slightly larger than an iPhone and at the same time, only slightly smaller than my 15” MacBook Pro. I don’t know how to explain how that’s possible. When I first got the original iPad Pro, it felt like it was swallowing up the universe every time I looked at it. This does not, despite the fact that its the exact same screen size. If I were to guess, the small bezels and especially the rounded corners like integrate it into the environment better? I used it next to my three-screen setup at work and it felt right at home.

The screen is awesome. This is my first 120 Hz device, and poo poo as simple as scrolling Netflix is captivating because of how smooth it is. It is also, as advertised, extremely fast, which is easiest to get a feel for when you use the keyboard to cmd-tab. Applications switch instantly. I thought applications switched instantly before, like on my iPhone X, but I was wrong. It changes the entire rhythm of using this thing. Normally using an iPad has a leisurely pace to it, kind of. It was never slow, but it was like you switched apps, or did a thing, and you get a moment to breathe. You never get a moment to breathe anymore. Everything is immediate in a way that makes everything else seem interminable. If the first gen swallowed space, the third gen swallows time.

My biggest surprise is how much I like the keyboard. I was not expecting to. I figured, iPad keyboards are mostly bulky and heavy and I never bothered with the first gen, but since there are no third party cases yet I figured I’d get the keyboard one because if this gen is like the last two Apple’s one will probably be the best and maybe even the only one with smart connector, so rather than getting a case that I will replace at the first opportunity, let’s spend more and get something I might use. I love my MacBook Pro keyboard. I know its not without controversy, but I love it. I like this one more. It’s crunchy in a way that the MBP keyboard isn’t. It has a better sound, kind of hollow almost like knocking on wood and the spacing is fantastic. There is, however, no escape button. Which is very strange since several dialogues present escape as a keyboard shortcut when you hold down the CMD button for the cheat sheet. I guessed CMD-period would be the same, and it is, which is nice. You also notice how inconsistent keyboard support is implemented, even in official apps. In Settings, there’s no way to tell which pane is focused, which is stupid. Also its easier to take the back off, disconnecting it, than it is to unlock the angle at the base, which makes perfect sense if you think about the priorities but still feels a bit strange.

The #2 pencil is completely different. It feels better in every way, but it also draws quite differently, with a lot more friction that is a lot closer to paper. I get the feeling artists and note takers switching from paper will like it a lot better. It will take me some more adjustment, though, but I feel like it will be worth it as it affords a lot more control.

The sound is as advertised very good. I have heard some crackling when i first started playing stuff on there but it seems to have stopped. Will keep an ear out and see if it reoccurs.

App wise, it’s the iPhone 4 → 5 transition all over again, with letterboxing on pretty much every single app, and its a real litmus for who is Good With Apps. (Awful.app, Linea Sketch, Procreate, OmniGraffle are all Good). Civ 6 starts quite a bit quicker but still have to wait for it, but switching back and forth between it and Awful doesn’t halt it any more (and it has key bindings, :noice:). Hearthstone starts a lot quicker.

I have a LG 5K screen at work, the one Apple sells you. The USB-C cable will charge the iPad but will not work as an external display; instead you get an alert saying that it’s a Thunderbolt device and is not supported.

Happy to answer any further questions about it

I would say it depends what you'll use it for. I went with 256 because for my use case it should be plenty, I have my pixelbook and MBP for more serious portable work. If you'll be loading it with games or using it for actual work the 512 might make more sense.

Yeah, won’t really be for work apart from some OneDrive based ms office files, and not many games. 256 probably better and put the difference towards the keyboard case.

That reminds me about games, must get Stardew Valley when I get my pro. I bet it’d be fantastic on that large screen.

Yeah, it's stupid how quickly my brain flipped from looking at my pimped out 2017 model as the hottest poo poo to apparently now being obsolete now that this one's been announced. When I was reading the teasers before the announcement I really did think "this doesn't sound that much better really" (although maybe that was just subconscious ego padding) but I agree the aesthetic changes really do make a big difference. The bezels are a great example; I really do think in terms of function it actually seems like a downgrade, but it does make mine look older now...plus the curved edges on the older models echo "ancient" 2010 era ipod touches in a way that didn't even register with me before but is now bothering me intensely.

The new pencil being way better isn't helping. Honestly I have no idea why I'm reading news about the new one, I should probably stop.

I'm honestly more interested in USB-C. My 2016 iPad Pro was the one remaining device I have that doesn't use USB-C (excepting the kindle oasis, but that rarely needs charging) and because I'm weird and want a charger in the 3 spots I'm most likely to be sitting and using a device, I had to have an extra charger for just the iPad everywhere which was an issue with plug availability, forcing me to use multi-usb plugs that don't have fast charge. It's a stupid first world problem to be sure, but I'm still looking forward to it. That alone wouldn't have done it but it was probably the kicker for me.
