Nah that's perfectly normal, Mico's just one of those weird bosses that can be really easy or really annoying depending on if you know whats going on (see also Bed of Chaos). Once you figure out his gimmick he's not very tough at all.

I wonder how many people died to that loving gap in the railing because that totally got me too.

Having not seen the content where this is brought up, I googled Onechebara because I wondered what it is for some context, and I can safely say I did not make it very far before I aborted that decision.

Reach for the moon!
Clicked to a random point in the video and saw a lady in comically oversized punk rock boots with basically a chainsaw greatsword cleaving apart a tank with two gun turrets so I guess it can't be ALL bad.

Mostly bad though, still a definite probability.

It's going to be fun when they discover just how powerful the cyclone spin is, like its devastating multi-hit ability against certain bosses or the fact that it's driven by inertia, meaning that if you activate it the second you hit a spring you can fly an enormous distance into the air.

Thanks to Matt and Liam, I picked up Life is Strange today and I'm really loving enjoying it. I wasn't keen on some of their choices, so I thought I'd go for a slightly different route. Obviously, my experience is more slow-paced (which I like; I want variety in my games) and the first 10 or 15 minutes I was just browsing through Max's journal.

Man, they nailed it with her diary. Like, this is EXACTLY how I would write my own notes (except for swooning over a handsome teacher). Almost verbatim, even. Down to puns and self-depricating humor. The writing can be a bit rough around the edges, but I find Max's character very relatable. The story of hopeful dreaming of positive changes in your life and subsequent demoralization when challenged by your own social ineptitude hits close to home for me. The dialogues don't offend me as much as they seemingly do for the rest of people (maybe because English is not my mother tongue), and I find the overall cheesiness of interactions to be on par with my memories of high school.

I probably won't have enough inner reserves to hold off completing the game before they do, but it'd be interesting to see how much, if at all, our choices matter.

If English isn't your first language, it makes a lot of sense the dialogue won't bother you like it does a lot of people. Max and Chloe are legitimate characters and fit into high school tropes well, but what's so grating is their (mostly Chloe's) schizophrenic overuse of slang, that ends up sounding stilted and forced. Just as an example, "gnosh" is a Jewish slang, most prevalent in New York, while "hella" is Northern California skater. They're all like this, it's just a unnatural-sounding potpourri of dialects, so the problem a lot of people have is a pretty high-level one.

I'm with you though, I like the game more than most people, in spite of its flaws.

For me, the problem wasn't misplaced slang (although I rolled my eyes and groaned a couple of times at it during the LP), it's that the characters' wit often reaches Whedon's level of overwritten-ness. I understand the need to create engaging interactions, but sometimes it's wise to dial it down. I sort of accepted it and moved on. Plus, my own high school period interactions were pretty groan-worthy.

More breathing space between jokes and puns would have been great, though.

Yeah, the main characters in Life is Strange are fine - although Chloe is the biggest poser ever, but I guess that fits her anyway - but the dialogue...I'd like to think I'm still close enough to my teen years that I can still tell how a teenager talks, and there's no way Life is Strange is a good representation of that. Plus, I'm not sure if they were going for the 90s-school-drama writing style intentionally or not - overly-verbose, slang-slinger teenagers, the thousands of high school tropes, trying to touch on delicate subjects but being WAY too delicate about them...

That last one sorta weakened the Kate sub-plot for me too. I mean, I can accept that Kate would go depressed and suicidal because of a video of her kissing X boys in a night. It's feasible. But it's really a PG way of going "she got date-raped and revenge porn'd". It's an understandable decision, but...

Yeah. I basically never use Lilac's standard attacks any more, especially since discovering that sideways+down+B lets you cyclone on the ground, too.

Or she could just have depression, which any little spark could immediately cause a sling off the roof. It really doesn't take much or anything at all.

Yeah, as I said, I accept the end-game and I don't think it's a far-fetched conclusion for the character. But the overwhelming repercussion and shaming from a video where a probably-18-year-old-can't-remember kisses a bunch of guys in what basically amounts to date-rape...it feels like it's a placeholder. I don't question the character work, it just reinforced the 90s-high-school-drama feel in my head during what should be, by all means, the high point of that episode.

Eh, maybe it's for the best anyway. Not sure if I trust most media to handle that type of poo poo, nevermind a game with...less-than-stellar writing, let's put it like that.

(also, I'm a sucker for coming-of-age stories so I really wanna like Life is Strange more than it lets me like it)

Actually, living in the PNW and working in a store that's recently hired a couple people actually Max's age I can say with some certainty that the writers aren't all that far off with the dialogue. Some stuff, like Retro Zone, yeah, no, no one says that, but "hella" and "nosh"? Yeah, they're both slang staples.
