I'm probably gonna vote for her but I fuckin hate that our only option is a cop/landlord who does the dumb 'oh I haaaaaate this law I completely chose to enforce' act.

I couldn't keep track of all the tweets but a bunch of other Democratic congressional candidates outraised their Republican opponents this quarter. A lot of them are still a little behind in terms of cash on hand but I imagine they will close the gap by the end of the summer.

I hadn't driven out to Fredericksburg in about a decade until last week. The winery fad is reaching bubble levels, jesus christ. None of them even make good reds.

Yeah it’s crazy, like the breweries in dfw. William Chris in Hye, Texas Hills in Johnson City, and Grape Creek in Fredricksburg are good though. I’m personally also partial to Messina Hof.

There was a panic when a bill came up in the lege which would require wines with Texas on the label to be made of 100% Texas sourced grapes.

The wife and I went to Fredericksburg for a weekend a few years ago. We stayed in the middle of "downtown" and there was a really nice wine/cigar bar across the street from where we were staying. The French owner was working the bar, and when we asked for some local wine, he said "I won't do that to you" and refused to give us anything from the area. It was awesome. We were so confused by why a French person would move to the middle of a self-proclaimed "wine country", if he hates the wine. Kudos for the principles though!

Also for the North Texas folks there's Muenster near Oklahoma (take I-35 north) which has a big German bakery and meat market: No wineries though. As someone with a really awkwardly long German last name and ancestors buried in Central Texas cemeteries full of Heinrichs and Fritzes and so on, my statement to the nativists is that if you're interested in preserving your heritage you should go on and actually preserve it instead of trying to tear down other people. Even better, sell them your heritage. BrutalistMcDonalds fucked around with this message at 01:31 on Jul 17, 2018 |

Speaking of nativists ... the stuff you see on your local GOP activist FB group: I thought this was nuts (that is a pro-Hitler website) and it turns out this person has been around for awhile, which I didn't know: https://www.texasobserver.org/texas-gops-sara-legvold-problem/ quote:Legvold’s mystifying acceptance by the state party is a case study in those trends. As many of the activists who determine the course of the party have grown more insular and paranoid, more motivated by fear and bigotry, the party’s leadership has done little to repudiate them. Legvold is wrapping up a two-year stint with the State Republican Executive Committee, an organization that, according to the committee’s bylaws, “act[s] as the governing body” of the party. Her name and photo are prominently displayed on the party’s website. And her status as a member of the Republican Party’s leadership lends her considerable influence. The wineries in Fredericksburg all cater to the whole woo Girls night out crowd. Texas does have good wine but it's hard to find. I know this isn't wine chat thread but if you are in the hill country this place is worth checking out http://www.lacruzdecomalwines.com/about/ Yall may remember the owner's law firm from back in the day. poo poo isn't cheap but the tasting room has some cool rear end art and the owner is chill if he decides to join you. The only making GBS threads thing is you can't really find the wine anywhere but their location and it's all small productions.

I'm really glad the 13th district has a Democrat this time. He won't ever win, but it's usually the last place in Texas (or the entire country really) that actually gets a candidate. Was tempted to run myself, only so I could say I ran for Congress one time, but not actually campaign.

Good. It would have made him and other democrats vulnerable in November. A quote from Beto in yesterdays Dallas Morning News: “We could abolish HHS and ORR and CBP and DHS and ICE, or we could decide that we're going to change these practices,” El Paso Rep. Beto O’Rourke, who is challenging Cruz in November, said on KUT. “It's not as simple as saying that we want to change one agency.”
