The best one was when "The Giant" was going to chokeslam him from the middle rope and he flips over and turns it into a Diamond Cutter. The crowd had no idea what happened because of the angle, but 13 year old me was marking out like crazy at home.

on one hand, how did WCW gently caress this guy up

on the other hand, it's WCW, how did it take them nearly a year and half to gently caress him up

Because every winning streak gimmick has the kind of talk that happens on here of "ugh, it's so boring, it's killing the other talent, it'll be so much easier to book if we beat him" and then they do, and the match usually sucks because either they trying to gradually water down the gimmick (WWE's usual tack: "undefeated" becomes "Never pinned or submitted" becomes "Never pinned" becomes "Never pinned in singles competition" until no-one gives a gently caress) or what happened with Goldberg and Ryback, where they try and protect them by doing a screwy finish, that just makes sure the person beating them doesn't get over. (Not that Nash needed the rub, obviously, but it's baffling that Kev though that finish was in any way smart)

And then no-one has any ideas for what to do with them because despite crowing about 'it'll be much easier to book', they actually didn't have anything planned and seemingly can't come up with any ideas.

Not to be that guy, but I actually thought the screwy way they took the belt of Goldberg could have worked.

Goldberg gets a couple of months feud with Scott Hall for tazing him, Nash all the while going "it's not my fault". When the Goldberg/Hall feud is done, Goldberg goes to Nash and says "I want my title back", but Nash is distracted by a bunch of jobber contenders and can't give him his rematch, and Goldberg gets obstacles thrown in is way by NwO, or management or whoever. This way, Nash gets a couple of new matchups to build him as a good champion, Goldberg is away from the title and chasing it. Also, depending on how long you are prepared to wait, by keeping them apart, but not really, when they do eventually have the rematch for the title people will be literally begging for it.

Fingerpoke of Doom ruined all of that though.

How do you have a guy like Goldberg lose though? I thought the tazer loss actually made him look like a complete monster. THIS was the only thing that could beat him.

Granted a loss to Nash was pretty stupid.

Fall Brawl 2000. I’m not saying Goldberg should have remained unbeaten until then, just that that was a way better loss than the Starrcade bullshit

Honestly, this could've worked. The Diamond Cutter was over as a killer finish. Have Page hit it OUTTA NOWHERE and pin Bill, boom, your upper-midcard babyface is now a main event babyface. As I recall that match was really good, too.

Kosmo Gallion
Sep 13, 2013
I'd have Goldberg win the Havoc match as DDP still looked strong in defeat and build to a Starrcade rematch. DDP would have to hit two Diamond Cutters to win. Maybe countering the Jackhammer with one.
