Omega appears and is of absolutely critical importance right before 4.0... and then just kinda disappears into a big hole forever, as far as the main plot is concerned. Like, Omega is the reason that Heavensward happened, because it chased Midgardsormr across the stars until he landed on the Source. "Here's the secret truth behind X plot thing" is exactly what they put in content like raid series.

I was just about to type something up but I feel like you addressed it more eloquently than I could have. Controversial take - I don’t find “The Sound” that interesting/compelling. If anything, it feels like a loose end to the current story arc and I feel like loose ends are best tied up in the raids.

I feel like it's gonna be The Sound, but also I like the idea that it's Lahabrea's horrible little man cave that he lived in in-between setting up calamities. They shoved the source of the Flood of Light into the last raid series, and they've said before that they do want the 8 man normal raids to tie more heavily back into the MSQ (and it's something people have asked for since Alexander ended up being more of a side story), so yeah I'm down with it being The Sound.

I could see us fighting fragments of Elidibus’s past memories (and the Ascians’) as we get deeper to the bottom of whatever it is. There are some more questions and cool Ascian poo poo to gently caress with, like Elidibus’s hero past, Emet-Selch’s iterations— especially Solus as a young man forging the empire. Seems like SE wants to finish the Ascians but they left a few hooks along the way that might be compelling. In any event I’m just excited for more FF14 to play

Just a little extra dialogue option of 'oh, I follow them' and a bit of extra 'ah then you'll be well aware (something interesting about the fight)' is all it'd take to make them feel a bit more connected to a usually thoughtless choice we made.

I'm expecting the secret final zone to be the center of the earth, where the lifestream and the heart of the star is and where the Sound originated from. The climax will take place there as Hydaelyn and Zodiark are gone, meaning that the heroes have to fix the heart of the star/laws of reality to prevent the Sound from returning.
