THe point is that a quarter of people that live in Texas think that the risks of vaccinations outweigh the benefits.

There's a special election in Senate District 19 today. If you live in San Antonio or West Texas along the border check to see if you can go vote. This is also what I've been working on for the past month so its a nice baby for me

Was going to buy 4 Beto signs for family and friends and yeah they were $10 in the online store but it was $8 shipping each. Found someone in the area who was working with the campaign and got some from them instead because I'm not about to pay $72 for some yard signs. Bonus is she had some Lizzie signs too e: to be clear we still paid for them, just didn't pay the crazy shipping

Watermelon Daiquiri posted:I'm shocked at how many beto signs I'm seeing in the upper middle class city of coppell This is the kind of thing I have heard a lot. I'm really interested to see if he ends up winning these areas or if these folks come home to the Republicans on election day like they always do. Skex posted:If Beto wins it will mark the deathknell of the centrists. Because if he wins Texas with a MFA, abolish ICE and Impeach Trump platform it will prove that it can win anywhere. I forgot to reply to this, but I unfortunately doubt they will concede defeat on this. If Beto wins the Dem leadership will claim him as proof of centrist supremacy. They have done the same thing with Conor Lamb stealing a house district that voted for Trump despite (according to some forum posters who live in his district) Lamb's actual campaigning focus being on expanding Medicare/SS and supporting unions. The fact that there is apparently this enthusiasm for him in rich white neighborhoods and Republicans are terrified of the amount of Beto signs they see in their necks of the woods is enough for them to impute "he appealed to Moderate Republicans" after the fact.

Austin is thinking about renaming a bunch of stuff named after Stephen F. Austin, so it's got people wondering if the city should change it's name completely. https://twitter.com/vtblom/status/1024417243684331522 I wouldn't organize action around it, but hell why not?

Buffalo Hump, after the Comanche chief from the area murdered by Texan forces in 1840 while leading a peace delegation after the Rangers attacked his village unprovoked. Also rename everything named after settlers. Except the German towns because they never broke their Indian treaty.

No body tell these guys about Washington state https://twitter.com/PatrickSvitek/status/1024641988099035138 Flores was the overall leader but there were 3 Dems in the race. Still I was scrambling to make sure this was headed to a runoff when the returns started coming in It was Flores with 34, Gallego with 29 and then another D, Roland Guiterrez, with 24. Presumably the Ds will get behind Gallego but these mid term special election runoffs have such low turnout that really bad things can happen. You know like Ted Cruz. zoux fucked around with this message at 14:33 on Aug 1, 2018 |

6 points this far out still seems like a pretty good result for Beto, IMO. The way he runs his campaign leaves plenty of reason to think that gap'll keep shrinking as we get closer to election day.

VitalSigns posted:Seems to agree with other surveys Democrats in Texas don't typically have much to get excited about. Cruz's lack of popularity is a serious drag on him and I really don't see the upcoming debates helping him as the more people see Cruz the less people tend to like him. I mean it's Texas so I don't want to get my hopes up, but Beto is in the best position to bring this home as any Democrat since Richards. The key will be whether Democrats believe that he has a shot. News like poling being within the MOE should help that. I mean this is loving Texas, the fact that a pro-MFA, abolish ICE, Impeach Trump Democrat is even a remote threat doesn't bode well for Republicans in general.
