I happened to stumble upon a copy of Ninja Gaiden Sigma and couldn't resist buying it, even if I unfortunately had to buy it together with God of War 3 if I wanted a better price. I loved Bayonetta and Platinum'd it but I couldn't finish even the third mission in DMC3 because it was too hard for me. I've tried NG on the XBOX but got really frustrated with the first boss. Why the hell can he start attacking me while I'm in the middle of a combo? He should at least block my attack before he can start kicking my rear end! I beat him eventually but I had to use up my healing stuff.

Could you guys give me some pointers for NG Sigma? I enjoy a good challenge but DMC and NG have managed to beat me so far.

What's unfortunate about this? GoW3 is great. Give it a chance.

I'm sure it's an OK game :) It's just that I thought the demo was really disappointing since it felt like nothing had changed from GoW2. Then I got Bayonetta and never looked back. I also have the latest Castlevania game but never finished it, so now I have a whole bunch of games in the same genre, when I only really wanted NG. Still, NGS is pretty drat rare (at least where I live) and I'm sure I'll play through GoW3 once at least, so I shouldn't complain.

Is there anything I should know before starting playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma?

I asked here because I didn't want my game spoiled.

Get the stalker complete mods, which fix a lot of bugs and make the game prettier (though also harder on your computer).

Use assault rifles for humans, shotguns for mutants. I'd also advise avoiding combat with humans until you get a rifle with a scope.

The first boss is a right kick in the shurikens. He exists to force you to figure out Ryu has moves other than the basic combos. Notably, the run up the wall and slash move.

You will die a lot. Get used to blocking, rolling, and counterattacking like its your job. You will die a lot.

There is no shame in buying and spamming potions during fights. You will die a lot.

Flying swallow has been nerfed in that many enemies now block it. Basically you can't cheese bosses but you can still slam into smaller human enemies with it.

The Ninja Sword is the most versatile weapon in your inventory. That said, the Lunar often makes short work of bosses.

Charge attacks are godly, and if a boss has enemies with him, thats what you should do to kill him.

Note that I played both Ninja Gaidens for the Xbox, and not their Sigma counterparts on playstation but these tips should still be relevant.

Wait for humanoid bosses to start their attack cycle, then find an opening (Roll behind them) and do your combo. Master Murai (Mr Nunchucks) has two blockable attacks and an unblockable grab. If he's close enough to you for more than a few seconds you're basically hosed. If you're paying attention you'll see him outstretch his arm right before grabbing you, but its best to just keep your distance when not wailing on him.

Save your ninpo for bosses/large fiends you can't seem to dodge, they give you a nice window of invincibility even if some of the magic isn't that effective damage wise on bosses.

The wooden sword is amazing if you can afford to upgrade it all the way.

I've just begun playing Dragon Age II and I'm a bit lost. I decided to play as a Rouge but I'm not sure if that's going to be a good idea as combat seems to be very up-close and personal.

Also; how linear is the story? Do I have any real control over how the story will play out?

I played as a Warrior, but I found Varric to be a pretty useful teammate, so I guess Rogues aren't too bad. You can switch who you control in battle, so it doesn't really matter what class you play as since you should have at least one of each. Just have a Warrior to act as a tank and have two mages to deal all the damage. The only downside to playing as a Rogue is that you don't really need two Rogues in your group (although you may be able to pull it off, perhaps replace the Warrior, always keep two mages though) and thus you won't need Varric in your group, which is sad because Varric is cool as gently caress.

As for the story, yeah, there's lots of different ways the plot can go. You can make decisions that will kill off characters, cause them to leave, sometimes avoid battles, and while it will eventually reach the same conclusion, there are plenty of moments where you'll wonder what you could have done differently.

Too bad the story is boring as poo poo.

It's not a huge tip, but when doing the DNA board thing, you can reroll results over and over until you get what you want. Stacking a 4 Damage and a 4 Damage and it gives you a 1 Health? Reroll that poo poo until you get the result you wanted from it.

Also you'll want a gun with pure damage and a gun with lots of impact. High impact lets you overdive into the enemy with less shots, and that is about the only way to take some enemies down in any sane amount of time / ammo.

Undead Necromancer is the most broken combo in game, instantly summon hordes of units / workers and rush the enemy. Get the mana regen building and skeleton upgrades asap and roll over your enemy.

What difficulty should I play Metal Gear Solid 4 on, Naked or Solid Normal? MGS3 is the only game I've played in the series, and it's been so long that I don't remember what difficulty I used or how I felt about it. The Grand Theft Auto games are the next closest games I've played in terms of play style, and the difficulty was easy enough to not be stressful, but not so easy as to be a cakewalk.

Its not really a hard game at all so I would go for solid normal. But if you are mainly playing it for the story, there is no shame in going with easy.

There are secret missions you won't understand without playing the first game, and there are several characters and references from/to the old game as well.

Johnny, the dude you rescue from the courts early on in the game, was a lieutenant of the saints in the first game. The police chief troy was also in the first game, he was a undercover cop who managed to become a lieutenant in the saints as well.

I finally bought Fallout 3. I've done a pretty good job of avoiding all spoilers since I knew I would get around to it. One quick question--I know there's something you can do/a place you can go that ends up locking you out of a significant portion of the main quest (though you can still finish). Unless it's a major spoiler, how do I avoid doing this on my first run-through. (Otherwise, I plan on exploring as much as I can before going through the main story.)

Seconding the advice about Factories Insurance Fraud for infinite sprint. You may also want to do Escort in the Red Light District for vehicle delivery.

On Basejumping:
To basejump, you need to leap out of a plane over an area cars have access to. When you are over such an area you'll see the option to start the diversion. In order to get the no fall damage unlock, you need to land on the car that appears at the centre of the target. The key to successfully basejumping is to hold back on the control stick or movement keys until you are very close to the ground. This will stop you overshooting the car. Take the time to get yourself lined up so that moving forward will take you straight over the car, then as you get close to the ground, push forward to move forward very quickly. This'll zip you over and onto the car to unlock fall damage immunity.

Also, if you're on PC, get Gentlemen of the Row. It's basically the essential mod, fixes lots of bugs and performance issues and improves the game massively overall.

Where you start your character makes a difference in how fast you reach level twenty. Prophecies is slowest, Nightfall is medium, Factions is fastest. Just finished Crysis 2, thought I'd drop some knowledge:

- Aliens are more vulnerable from behind (the tendrils).

- Aliens use similar tactics to humans, but you have to beat them in a different want. Using mobility and getting up close and personal is a great way if you have a shotgun.

- One of the best ways to fight heavies is to find the sweet spot between where they can melee you and where they can shoot you. If you keep moving they can't really attack you. Use armor.

- Armor and Stealth are both very useful, but remember that as soon as you fire out of stealth your energy goes to zero right away.

- Stealth kills do not drain energy.

- The perk that lets you see bullet paths is extremely useful for messy fights.
