On the 3/15/200 show Adam makes an offhand joking comment that Dr. Drew is nothing more than a shill to the drug companies. Seems a bit awkward given the past accusations now.

What were the past accusations?

Anyway, how does Drew not get completely creeped out by Gio? For someone that treats mental health problems all day you would think he would pick up on something.

I still love listening to the old episodes of Loveline, but now I can't stand listening to anything new Adam does.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/matthewherper/2012/07/02/feds-say-dr-drew-was-paid-by-glaxo-to-talk-up-antidepressant/

Drew was paid to recommend Wellbutrin for fixing your sex drive if anti-depressants killed it. He never disclosed payment and that's not something the company has FDA approval for advertising. It is a super common opinion though.

It showed terrible ethics but I'd throw him into the Armstrong Williams camp of taking money to say what he already thought.

I would agree that he was happy to get money to help fund mental health services, in addition to recommending an anti-depressant that worked well for him. Still, kinda unethical of him. But he cant stop chasing those nickles.

Side note: I've been dealing with addicts and other mental health patients as part of working in a major city emergency department. Really gives me a lot more respect for what Drew did with his life, and the effort he has put into helping people with these problems.

Seriously. I'm majoring in Addictions Counseling because of Drew/Loveline. Being in the field opens eyes and makes a person respect Drew so much more. My profs have cited Drew before too, which is pretty cool :3

You should cite some of Adam's quotes on a paper.

I will be gone, but not forever.
As someone who mostly listened to Loveline mostly in the 90s it's pretty cool to finally be getting high-quality episodes from an era where very, very few previously is pretty awesome. Shame to see Giovanni is using it as an opportunity to make it about self-promotion, but I actually find the stuff he adds to the beginning of the show to be pretty interesting.

Run and never look back, a fun person would just pull the battery and roll the dice on sleep/fire death, a boring person will get it replaced. One that's left beeping though? That's a person too lazy or dumb to do anything about it.

Although I just listen to random episodes and I hear the same rants/topics over and over again. It's quite odd. Even stuff from the Adam and Dr. Drew podcasts were being discussed 10 years earlier.

Well from the itunes 96 episode, I learned that Adams common hairy women rant (bleaching those hairs ladies isn't fooling anyone, it just gives you a white mustache) is actually started by Pamela "Bobby Hill" Adlon.

90s Adam in his spry early 30s is refreshingly devoid of his angry white guy celebrity rants that made certain 04 and 05 eps nearly unlistenable for long segments.

Wulp, that loveline torrent is glacial. Anywhere I can download batches of episodes sans lovelinetapes? I'm doing the limit (fiveish at a time) there but drat, I wish I could just magic a thousand episodes onto my computer.

Hey, what years do you guys think were the best for Loveline? 1999, 2000, 2001? Is 2004 still golden age? Hm.

I dunno by 2004, Adam was really into ranting rather senselessly for whole segments. I'm starting to love the 1996 episodes, he's just so excited and full of ideas. Drew still is trying to strike a balance between his humor and his high horse and the drops aren't there yet. I'd say 2000-2002 is the best balance.

There are like only 10 episodes out so far, and they are all on iTunes.

I've started chopping out the intros, yeah it's kinda anal and takes a few minutes but I just do it as they come out, it'll be well worth it to have a full collection at some point in the future. I'd imagine Giovanni would poo poo himself if anyone uploaded these, but there's not a thing he can do about it if you just do it for personal use!

Most decent podcast apps have a 15,30,120 second skip right? I just tap the 120 and if Giovanni's still talkin I give the 30 a shot till I hear the intro. I admire the extra effort but not sure it's necessary.

They have started putting ads into the ad breaks and it really throws me off, I'm used to enjoying 15+ year old radio spots from timbucktoo in my classic loveline, hearing modern spots in those places are just odd.

Also I'm currently listening to the ep with the rentals and it has a junior college defender call, those are always the greatest.

"I go to one of the best Jc's around, Saddleback college."
"What? If its so good why has no one ever heard of it? "
Cue giggling from the guests.

It really throws me off because some of them are made by current day Adam and Drew. It takes my brain a second to realize its not from 1996.

When and why did they stop doing station identifications?

I'm in the middle of 2000 at the moment and whichever station got taped and digitised for the torrent played their "celebrity station identification" drops over every intro bumper, which got potted down and sometimes runs into actual show time.

I haven't had this, but I have experienced the surreal moment of listening to/remembering an episode I actually heard on the radio 10ish years ago.

For me it's the opposite. A few years ago 94.7 NRK from Portland changed its format and it sucks now.

I'M GONNA GET YOU DUCK

I got the inverse once when staying with a friend in Seattle. Station ID came on in the car for a station I'd only heard about through old Loveline, and it caught me off-guard because I'd never even considered that it would still be around.

ZONE 105 was a Minneapolis station, so I get the "local affiliate feeling" quite often. My favorite SEXWORLD commercial was Bill Clinton cleaning out his office. That place still stands, open 24 hours; a relic of the seedy days of yore. I can't imagine they actually sell much porn these days, so they must have diversified, but I'm afraid to find out how.

We're smack in the middle of the ZONE!! (oh, wow) 105.
