Ouch. So for fleet carriers, we now have the Shokaku, Zuikaku, Hiryu, Soryu (taking a little shore leave), and... well, Junyo is barely a fleet carrier and barely afloat. What's the status on Taiho? IRL it was ready around March 1944. Should be a bolster to what's left of the Kido Butai, even with crappy airgroups. Other than Taiho, we have the 3 carriers of the Unryu class which won't all be ready until about August-October (depending on supply) and maybe the Shinano (I can't remember if Grey cancelled that or if it was under construction as a carrier in the first place). We also have the Ibuki as a CVL...maybe? That might have been cancelled too. Either way, it doesn't get here until '45 at the earliest. Did Grey start converting the seaplane carriers Chitose and Chiyoda into proper flattops?

Try massing every capital ship for a decisive battle, Grey. I joke, but other than the lousy task force speed that might actually work very well, right? Just have all the good ships in one and the other right behind? Eh... That's the system we already used before the juniors got blown away. Maybe just integrate the best survivors from the Kiddo Butai in the KB. RA Rx fucked around with this message at 12:54 on Dec 13, 2017 |

Triggerhappypilot posted:Ouch. Glancing way back at the start of the thread, Grey apparently cancelled the three '45 Unryus, but left everything else building. So Shinano in Nov. '44 and Ibuki in Apr. '45 are still on track, unless there have been more changes since. Don't recall seeing any word one way or the other about the seaplane tender conversions. If they started conversion on their historical date, we should know in the next few days though.

12 December 1943 U-boats continue to harass the North African coastline: U-593 puts homing torpedoes into the British escort destroyers Tynedale and Holcombe off Bougie, sinking both. U-593 was sighted by a patrolling Wellington and sunk by US and British destroyers the following day.

Yes, there is a specific very small chance that any ship can just blow up at any time due to a freak accident.

as far as taking chungking, there was some guy on the official forums who managed it. i think he actually took the entirety of China; I think I remember him getting oil from urumqi. somebody over there definitely made the jet planes too, I forget if it was him or not. I want to say that the above game had some strategy featuring ahistorically advanced prop planes that worked pretty well I also think this dude was the one who somehow understood how to manipulate the supply mechanics to get maximum throughput overland with a short hop from Korea so he could stockpile a poo poo ton on the home islands starting very early. I think he was playing a human even? and to top it all off he actually had near-SA quality screenshots and explanations, which is a rarity over there but I don't remember the link - something at matrix games.com, maybe. several cool AARs, after action reports I believe they call them, have been linked before in threads about this game, that's the only reason I know about them, so hopefully somebody who does have the links stops by

the matrix forums have tons of WitP AARs but most of them are unreadable, jumbled messes of poorly formatted text and dead picture links, so you have to trawl through a lot of junk to find the really good ones.

Nah, you're way better. While I agreed with 90% of the concerns about charts, none of it has been a big deal or anything, and they're an added bonus. You label your updates clearly and don't post EVERYTHING - you actually filter, the AARs over there don't, so I stopped reading them after like bits and pieces totaling up to less than 0.5. Also, your commentary and humor is superior to all but the most ardent roleplayers and IIRC. Over half of them played two days at a time... and some of them got real gamey - though that may be tarnished in my mind by that guy who stayed for six days at Pearl, went straight through the New Guinea jungle, cried about firebombers/nighttime bombing accuracy/altitude, lost his save when the noob won, etc. He did get a substantial amount of flak from a few players though. I saw a poorly-recorded youtube lets play of an allied run of the game. The guy went into apoplectic fits every time he read that two transport ships had collided in the daily intel screen. (For reference, this is extremely common during amphibious ops and barely does anything aside from a couple of points of systems damage.)

At least the stupid target plotting works in my favour occasionally. We also get to play a game of spot the rookie pilot. Also spot the late guy. Near Buna, some of our men are forced to retreat. They are still trying to bomb Luganville back into the ocean. The march into the mountains continues. More action today! And most of it good for me! A damaged patrol boat slips beneath the waves.

He only lost the save once, that was when it got 'corrupted'. In his defense it is a pretty buggy game, and the noob liked him but it followed a consistent pattern of behavior over like a year (and his stated goal was too see how far things could be pushed against a human allied player). The noob, Greyjoy, also accidentally bugged out the CAP once, that was when he accidentally corrupted the save... After which it didn't work out so badly and the Japanese player then soon followed up with the same thing back at him, at which point they decided they gave up after a bit, deciding the game wasn't working anymore. Should'a just taken his licks. Would've made a good show. Even if it's true they could've just rolled it out until they got something similar again. But the noob really, really liked him and they were having fun so he must've been all right in other ways. --- Will Grey be able to mass everything in China to Chunking and take them out before the Soviets declare? Probably not? Will he be able to hold out...? Yeah, probably won't be that much oil or anything then I guess. Way too many strong Soviet units too. Rangoon is still getting bombed daily, and is a rubbled wasteland. This is what an average days bombardment looks like at Jaluit. And I've just ordered a destroyer task force to drop off a brigade of fresh troops. Just another day of being pummelled by the Ai's superbombers. We confirm the kill of a light carrier.

Is it possible to turn off victory conditions and just keep fighting as either side until you've had your fill? I think it'd be very interesting to see how long Grey could last, in mainland Asia as well, but the most exciting would be how long he could survive against a nuclear-backed Operation Downfall. Would you be up for it, Grey? Tokyo Bay Fortress would see combat!
