Sorry to "well, actually", but the origin was a GBS thread started by someone else called "pick up your couch" or somesuch. The point was more "let's see what's under your couch!" than "can you lift a couch". People posted pics of the expected dust bunnies, loose change, lost pet toys, etc. Much vacuuming/sweeping was done.

Then Shine pops in with his big beefy arms and posts a pic of him holding this huge leather sofa straight up in the air. YLLS goons now take this as a challenge of lifting, and the thread takes a turn from finding all the hair scrunchies goons' cats have stolen, to who can deadlift/squat various types of living room furniture.

Maybe there was a sequel in YLLS, but that's the origin story of Shine lifting a couch.
