My manager, who is on vacation, forwarded a complementary email that a client sent in to him to the boss of my company. The boss gave me an attaboy email and he in turn cced my manager and director. I'm writing a thank-you email to the client in response. Do I cc my manager/boss/director, bcc them, or just send direct to the client?

If the client is someone you'll be working with again in the future, you can say thank you in person.

If you want to thank anyone, shoot off a quick reply to your bosses saying something along the lines of Thanks for the recognition I've had a really enjoyable time working with this client blah blah.

The expression "act like you've been there before" works great here. You don't want this to look like a special event. This is the norm for people who work with you. The bigger the production you make out of the e-mail, the more it looks like a special exception and not the norm. You've scored a touchdown, now hand the ball back to the ref and head to the sidelines while everyone cheers. The coach knows what you did.

My wife just broke a table tonight. The legs were screwed into the piece of poo poo base, which is made of that loving MDF poo poo. The screws fit into metal receptacles like this: The problem is that the holes are now too big for these things to go back. If this was wood, I'd use wood putty or glue, but I don't know what to do for MDF.

This is a little E/N (it doesn't warrant a thread), but does anybody else occasionally meet people who are otherwise normal but, for whatever reason, make you feel awkward and uncomfortable? I.E. about 75% of all professors I've had.

In places like Starbucks that have free wi-fi, what measures are in place to keep people from using their connection to do illegal stuff, like child porn?

Blacklists and router access logs. Plus, at least at the Starbucks I used to frequent, the baristas keep an eye on the people using computers in and around the store, and they take special notice of people who sit out in their cars with their computers and make a point of "checking the trash" or "taking a break" when they see someone out there for more than a few minutes.

My supervisor just implemented a new "cell phone policy." If you have a cell phone in the building, you have to hand it over and have it put inside a box behind the super's desk, whether you were going to have it out or not. You can't have it back except at lunch and the end of the day. A no cell phone rule I understand. Enforcing it by punishing those caught with cell phones I'm okay with. But having them actually confiscated at the door strikes me as...fishy? Any goons familiar with the law (specifically in IL) know if this is legal? The workplace doesn't provide the cell phones, and we already had a cell phone policy in place - no need for this extreme. This is my supervisor's new idea and it rubs me the wrong way. Something doesn't seem legitimate about taking away something that's not an illegal substance or a weapon. It won't really affect my work either way, but I seriously am sketched out by the whole cell phone box situation.

As long as they don't conduct unlawful searches, they're free to confiscate cell phones for any reason they see fit. It's common in many industries, especially when the threat of industrial espionage is large.

There are lots of industries that have good reasons to keep very tight control over recording or transmitting devices inside their facilities. Either that or your coworkers are assholes who have been making way too many personal calls during business hours.

I've got a cat skeleton in a box. I got it years ago when my school biology department was throwing it out. The box is not airtight, and it has been very slowly rotting - so far it's just yellow and spongy around the joints of the feet. Today, disaster. Little ants have invaded my cat box! I'm going to have to kill the fuckers before they eat my skeleton. Which means opening the box for the first time Does anyone have any advice to make my skeleton last longer? The extent of my ideas so far is to make the seal tighter with gaffa tape after I remove the horrid beasts.

After that it won't matter what kind of box it's in. I'd stick the whole box in the freezer for a couple weeks to get rid of the ants.

I can only shave every 3 or 4 days due to my sensitive new-age skin. Any more frequently than that and I invariably carve myself up. I don't use shaving cream because it dries up the skin around my mouth, and the crust stays for a day or so. What's my best option? Should I shave off my head? Edit: Thanks, looking through it now! I've been kind of half-paying attention to the Seahawks-Broncos game this evening, and one of the commentators said there were very few kickoff returns that game (i.e. lots of touchbacks), and referred to some rule change without really going into any detail about it.
