King jr never spoke about partisan politics. The fact that Nixon was all 'MLK who?' and Kennedy worked his contacts to have MLK released from jail probably didn't help his view of Republicans though. When that happened MLK sr publicly switched his support to the Democratic Party in that presidential election.

Of course the civil rights act changed everything and either party trying to claim MLK jr is pretty meaningless at this point.

I'm still trying to get this poo poo clear in my head, which is probably my biggest mistake, but where exactly does the GOP stand on this loving Syria thing anyway? I've heard everything from "nuke the fuckers", "he waited too long", "he needs congressional approval" to "gently caress him for seeking congressional approval", "we should stay out", "he's weak", "he's a warmonger" and everything else under the sun. Somewhere in all this rhetoric is a coherent message likening Obama to Marx and Stalin and most certainly Hitler but I haven't found it yet so I am confused.

Usually their message is much more organized and uniform but this time they just seem sound like a drunk uncle at 11:00 pm on Christmas Eve.

It'd be funny if it wasn't about flirting with yet another war.

I don't think a lot of people expecting Obama to start a new conflict, and most certainly not the GOP. They have absolutely no idea how to swing this, because calling Obama a coward backfires if ends up going to war, but giving Obama poo poo over going to war would be hypocritical. I guess their saving grace is that we're far enough from the last two wars that they can start revising history.

It seems Rush's theory is that al-Qaeda used chemical weapons against it's own people in order to get America involved in Syria. His reasoning being: DHS and local officials prepare for al-Qaeda chemical weapons attacks here so why wouldn't al-Qaeda use them over there? :downs:

Right, the GOP isn't "on message" because, other than asking Congress, Obama hasn't done anything yet. Their entire message will be Obama hosed up and fitting data to that conclusion, so until he does something they won't have much to say. It's the major POLITICAL reason Obama decided to ask congress in the first place; to limit the Monday morning quarterbacking. (The less-political reason is that it's actually just plain unclear what he should do.)

They started doing that 10 years ago, remember how 2000 was only close because of the devastating blow 9/11 delivered to the Gore campaign? Also recall there were no major terrorist attacks under President George W. Bush.

I heard it a lot IRL right before the Iraq invasion, usually tied to the the following narrative:

"Clinton ignored AlQueda for a long time and then after the first WTC attack he just shot a cruise missile up a camels rear end and intentionally missed Bin Laden because he was afraid of war. Then after 9/11 America saw it needed a new type of President that wasn't afraid to kick-rear end, so we elected a real man who would actually try to kill the terrorists."

Rush was just "throwing this out there" and "asking questions" and such today, but it was basically "and I'm not saying this is the case, folks, but what if...what if...the Regime (the Obama administration) orchestrated and planned the chemical attacks themselves by arming the rebels with Ricen gas" or whatever it was in order "to get what they want", whatever that is. He said Obama wants to remove dictators ("and don't get me wrong, folks, these are bad people but they're contained) replace them with Al Queida and the Muslim Brotherhood. For some reason Obama wants to do this.

So now Rush is a conspiracy theorist, anti interventionist, anti nation building, anti pre-emptive strike type truther who's just asking questions, man. Apparently anyway. He actually said that Assad would have no motivation to use these weapons. "What would be his motivation? What would he stand to gain?" and I'm loving screaming at my radio "Squelching a public revolution and a violent uprising?!?" Seriously, what the gently caress? He's actually asking whether we should believe Assad or Obama and "the regime".

He's openly wondering whether we should take the word of the President of the United States and U.S. intelligence over people known to actually use WMD's. He's been doing it for weeks now. This 360 should make his head spin harder than the best Oxycontin. It's jaw dropping to listen to.

Then again, I suppose that's what he does but I mean, god drat, man. He sounds like a radical anti-war activist.

Well, that and it's also the law and stuff. It's incredible. Now none of these war mongers wants to hold the hot potato. They were screaming for congressional approval measures and now that they have them, they don't want them. It's loving brutal how low we've sunk. If it were Bush or Romney in the Oval Office right now, they'd be lining up to kiss rear end no matter what either of them did.

People forget how wide of a birth GWB was given in the wake of 9/11, especially by the press who tread mighty carefully back then. Democrats gave him everything short of social security privatization (thank God) but for the most part, Democrats and our so called "liberal media" fell right in line and gave him all the power and respect he wanted. Until he hosed it all up and was exposed for what he was.

Yeah, the law (or, more cynically, "looking more like the type of president I said I would be") I would put in like third or fourth place. That law has been transgressed to the point that it's mostly an idea at this point, and Obama specifically said something along the lines of "I have the authority but I'm asking anyway".

I can't even get angry about it anymore, they have literally no positions other than oppositebama. The cloud of confusion in RW land over Syria is hilarious. Hannity will just do whatever the gently caress he wants and pretend he's always been at war with Eurasia but now we're getting people like Liz Cheney in a single appearance saying she's been saying we should bomb Syria for years AND that she wouldn't vote to approve the bombings now...because....something, while Donald Motherfuckin' Rumsfeld decides to be the next Ollie North and shows up on Fox news talking about a lack of planning, poor leadership, etc.

All I hope for is that there are enough sources other than major news networks paying attention to and highlighting the mass temper tantrum that has been called Republicans since 2008 and that they've completely poisoned the well on the upcoming generations.

Has anyone considered that our Navy might not even be able to bomb Syria because our battleships are full of pregnant gays? Yes! Talk show host Sandy Rios has considered that.

quote:

It’s getting more exaggerated. This is the nature of John Kerry, he always does this; he’s not to be trusted. This is the reason why I think we have to be concerned about going into Syria because the people that we’re looking at to lead us are untrustworthy people. There’s a second reason and that is military readiness. When I looked at those battleships going into the Mediterranean, supposedly getting ready for battle in Syria, I couldn’t help think about all the stories I’ve read about how women now are in the ranks of the Navy, getting pregnant at exponential numbers; when I think about the folding in and the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and the homosexual takeover of so much of our military I’m not sure how effective those naval ships will be.

Ugh, how can we shower Assad with bombs when we're throwing baby showers instead?! :negative:

Actually getting knocked up right before deployment is a big problem in the Navy. It's a form of malingering. It's just this one nicely removes you from your entire deployment. Managing to "break your leg" in a mishap doesn't gain that amount of time or give you the same sort of excuse/good feelings/interest group support a kid does. Your command is full of idiots if they don't count on some percentage of sailors trying to pull something to get out of deployment, and getting knocked up is a fairly common trick.

Though, there are no battleships, and cruise missiles are usually lobbed from Destroyers and Cruisers. Last I heard only CG's have females, DDs still don't. So there shouldn't be much of a problem.

If President Obama is praying for guidance on how to handle Syria, he’s not doing it in church, where he has failed to set foot on more than five months.

The president, who on the rare occasions when he does show up in a chapel often makes a high-profile stroll with his family across Lafayette Park from the White House to St. John’s Church, hasn’t been to services since Easter Sunday, March 31.

Obama has found his way to the golf course a couple of times on Sunday since then, although the president generally plays golf on Saturday.

I'm sorry but is this really a story? I've already seen some bloggers and commentators who love to just smear Obama over everything (the same crew that was pissed off about his Captain Morgan-ing his desk) jump on this like it's a big loving deal.

Major news networks will portray it as both sides being equally wrong and Obama being unable to get his way because of a "failure to lead". I doubt the major news networks will even portray it as a temper tantrum; alternative/social media is really the only place where this will take root and right-wing think tanks are starting to carpet-bomb twitter and buzzfeed in response.

The endgame is what it always is: make the government fail to work and get cynical voters to believe it can't.
