Wait, how was IsThereAnyDeal making such mistake? Do their listings not refer to AppIDs? They're not just... using a text string that matches the name of whatever is on the store, are they? Or mixing the different info fields? I'm very curious, does the link in the email point to the fake game or the real God of War? Or did it only point to ITAD's own page? Now that I look at ITAD's link and page naming conventions, they do seem to use text strings instead of referring to the Steam apps themselves: https://isthereanydeal.com/game/godofwar/info/ (actual God of War) https://isthereanydeal.com/game/reddeadredemptionii/info/ (Red Dead Redemption 2, but with an II for whatever reason - someone did this manually?) https://isthereanydeal.com/game/cyberpunkii0viivii/info/ (wait, ITAD treats ALL numbers as roman numerals?) https://isthereanydeal.com/game/nierreplicantveriiiiiivviiivivviiiviiiiiiix/info/ (uhhhhhhhhhhhhh) You can see another naming conflict in action right now, in fact, on their Dead Space page: https://isthereanydeal.com/game/deadspace/info/ They're listing both Dead Space 2008 and the Dead Space remake as the same product. Curiously, the $59.99 version currently available for pre-order on Origin has a "historical low" of $0.00 because ITAD thinks it is the same game. So that's how this is possible. Steam splits game names up into several different parts: Valve Steamworks documentation posted:Where your game's name is defined And if you look at steamDB, Spider Queen cave currently has a depot named GodOfWar Content, matching the odd "GodOfWar" title in the ITAD email and on the game's store page as the package name - ITAD's scraper must have caught that, briefly updated its price info and sent out an email alert to everyone with the game on their waitlist.

I've quite often had ITAD notify me of deals for games that turn out to be other, worse games. Right now on my wishlist I have a game called Buccaneers, and ITAD thinks I'm talking about a DLC for Port Royale.

The problem is that ITAD tracks a bunch of sites and most of them aren't tracking games by their steam id number, so it just kind of has to guess.

I've been seeing recommendations for a lot of games that cost exactly $1 and all have 10 positive reviews from accounts that only own 1 or 2 games. seel35games and didlstudio came up today, but there've probably been others. I guess the goal here is just to make money off people who are willing to buy something that looks questionable if it's cheap, but who knows?

I saw the ManlyBadassHero video on that game is that like, the entire game? I know it's a subject that's been beat to death but what is it with horror games that are all like 45 minutes long and introduce a bunch of characters and lore and poo poo but then you have like one scripted running sequence and then it's over?

I wish more of these lovely horror games were honest about what they are: a proof of concept/interest check Like it's not a bad thing to have a small demo or slice of a larger concept/game, and obv game jam games are their own thing too, but. Cmon

It's trying to be Poppy's Playtime but speedrunning it straight to the 'merchandising and bootleg YouTube animation' part of the lifecycle. Edit: The 'sequel' is just the second chapter of the actual game story. I guess labelling it a sequel makes it more marketable? The MSJ fucked around with this message at 17:56 on Jan 16, 2023 |

It was a whole rear end game, even if it was a small bite-sized one. Like you at least see and deal with all the animatronics and the game has a definite ending.

The market for these games are YouTubers who cater to children and fan wiki editors that obsess over extensively categorizing all the “lore”. Do you guys have any idea how many FNAF novels have been published? These guys want a piece of that pie.

We need a mascot horror game where the gimmick is you can't let yourself directly look at or hear sounds made by the monster because it's intellectual property owned by Disney. I've got a title: DEMONitizer

I know what your life is missing - an asset flipped Dead By Daylight clone where you play as Kermit. And are hunted by this guy. It's played 100% straight aside from the Kermit model because actually trying to be satirical in any way would require more effort, of course. Don't buy it even as a joke though as the reviews claim it uses 100% of your GPU, so there's a decent chance it's just a bitcoin miner. I don't have the time or energy to upload screencaps, but the text in the trailer (so to speak) of hidden and unknown is also incredibly stupid and worth laughing at Story Mystery Prediction Future Unpredictable CONFUSION GUARANTEED and then a oh-no-we're-dangerous-thinkers-that-are-being-targeted-for-our-dangerous-thoughts glitch screen, like, god, how the gently caress does this guy think any of this grift will actually work also based on the other screenshots, the story is about a high schooler who doesn't like football and may or may not enter the tech industry loving gripping, intense fiction right there

I saw this article on PC Gamer the other day, and can't believe it has been mentioned yet. At the time of the article being published, O2Jam Online was the worst rated game ever on Steam, at 4% (it's now at around 9%) So what makes this rhythm game bad? (snippets taken from the article)

Notice that part in there where the game spikes to $100 bucks for most of a year? This is because this very poorly-coded visual novel in a 3D engine was made by a dev who got really butthurt by... memory says it was bundle sellers at the time? and decided they were going to charge what the game was WORTH damnit. Somehow I got a key to this and I'm just gonna let 2015-me summarize the game in brief: quote:It is impossible to state how poor this game is, and that's not counting the excellent "translation". (Maybe it reads better in French or one of the other languages, but I somehow doubt the story is saner.) Also some screenshots. These are all legit unedited.
