GreenNight posted:I always forget about the Loveline TV show. I watched the hell out of it when I was a kid. What a weird idea for MTV. It wasn't that weird of an idea. At the time, the radio show was getting pretty popular. Looking back, I guess it was a pretty good adaptation, letting live people ask public questions, or ask anonymously, as well as calls, emails, and faxes. I must have been 13 or 14 when the show was on. I remember watching it a lot, because it came on right before/after sifl and olly and I watched the poo poo out of that. Those shows paired really well for someone that age.

Gonna go ahead and say it's because of that shitbag giovanni. Giovanni is the loving worst. I don't even care if it isn't his fault, because we all know it IS his fault, really.

RightClickSaveAs posted:Classic Loveline is terrible. It started off great as they had masters from original recordings and just uploaded those with no caveats, but now it seems to be all fan recordings that were already available online, only now you get to listen to he who shall not be named play a pretend radio host and do his awful intros at the beginning of every show. He even went back and added them to the original uploads after they'd been up a while. And yeah they don't even do basic audio leveling, so those terrible, terrible ads from PODCAST ONE are even worse. Podcast One is the worst, they're trying to recreate what makes radio so awful. There are episodes I KNOW I've listened to from fan archives that were from 1996. I was looking forward to hearing a re-mastered version, but they seemed to have skipped them over completely. I was very grateful to Gio when this first started, but now the quality and selection is no better than any . CatchrNdRy fucked around with this message at 06:06 on Nov 11, 2014 |

Just chipping in with how great it is to have all of Loveline from the 90s till when Adam leaves on my hard drive. And how you should all also get it if you can. You do have a certain feeling of "welp, now I've got it I'll never listen to it." though. I'm enjoying compilation clips on youtube. When Adam and Drew are on fire they have amazing comedic beats.

What's the condition called when a girl retains the voice she had at the age of abuse? I've googled and asked my pscych a few years ago and she didn't know either Also anyone have a link to Anderson's redneck caller song dropg?

It's not a condition, but your voice qualities like that are considered a part of your affectation.

I tried looking up info on it a while back too, I couldn't find any actual research or experiments or anything done on the subject. Really the most official observations on the subject seem to be from Dr Drew on loveline itself. I hope someone here can correct me and post some actual data on the matter.

The redneck song is called Tennessee Stomp. Loveline drop spreadsheet still going strong: http://bit.ly/lovelinedroporigins And I think what Apoplexy said is basically right about the voice thing. Abuse at a young age can severely impact one's sense of identity and personality and voice is a significant component of those. But you won't really find anything listed or described as a discrete condition unless it is maladaptive in some way, like selective muteness. The little girl voice is just odd. As impressed as I was with Drew's ability to guess their histories, I think I was almost more surprised at the sheer consistency of that one particular little girl timbre you would always hear. However, if you want to see real research, I did find this: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1808869414001554 Ror fucked around with this message at 05:13 on Dec 9, 2014 |

It's January 2002, Adam is by himself, and he tells people not to ask any kind of sex questions. Acceptable topics are home improvement and what you got for Christmas. People listen. It's just Adam, Ann, and Anderson goofing around and Adam explaining to someone how to fix their door.

Listened to an interesting set of episodes the other day with the sons of Bob Crane, talking about his death and the then new movie about him. Robert Crane was on 2002-10-27, and Scotty Crane was on 2002-11-03. Normally I don't like it when whatever is going on with the guests overtakes over the show, but for some reason I was really fascinated. The story itself is intriguing, but the sons also clearly hate each other. They were both profiting off their father's sordid legacy, but both really go after the other for doing the same thing. They are also both pretty delusional in their own way: Robert refuses to admit that his father was a sex addict, acting like a typical Loveline caller in idolizing the abandoning parent, and Scotty refusesto admit that his father being open about his lifestyle and showing him his home-made porn at a young age was damaging, acting like a typical Loveline caller in refusing to admit that he trauma of the past affects the present At the end of the day I'm not sure which brother comes off better (I suspect Scotty is a little closer to the truth but is also more nuts). But it still a little more stimulating than a typical show. I'm sure this isn't really new for the people here, but I recommend it and I'm curious what others think

Or did they both bash it? It's been a while, so I dont remember it that clearly. The movie is pretty interesting, by the way.

Scotty came on later to bash the movie and tell the "true story" (and promote his site where the paid area had some of the nudes)
