Crabtree posted:Is there a set pattern of bonus skill points or is it random? Set pattern thankfully. Two you can get from the get-go are (spoilers for people who want to find out for themselves) Erik’s Agility +30 and Sylvando’s Charm +40. Both give each respective character an extra 10 skill points.

I wonder what Erik would sound like if he was voiced by an American. I think part of his accent's weirdness is that he's played by an English actor trying to do a very specific American accent and sometimes he slips.ROFL Octopus posted:Jade spears, yeah. Multithrust, Party Pooper, Thunder Thrust and later Lightning Thrust. I love her spear skills. Oh drat, really? I haven't found any of those yet. I definitely see the value in respeccing, I just don't want to do it often for the sake of experimentation, at least not in the still relatively early part of the game where I am. Also, when it comes to respeccing, I know that you respec one skill section at a time. But what if you used that skill section to reach a skill in another section? For example, let's say the hero learned Falcon Slash (in the Swordsmanship section) by coming up through the Swords section. If I respec all my points out of Swords, do I keep the skills I unlocked in Swordsmanship, even though I no longer have any "path" to them? It's great for Sylvando too because his bottom tree is amazing. I think everything there scales from charm. Hustle Dance is obviously great and That's Amore does huge damage though as a result he does like to spam it and burn through all his mp when set to auto. Respecing is so cheap it may as well be free, it's worth doing all the time. Sylvando's Fuddle Dance made Tentacular a cakewalk. It hit every single time, and combined with Oomph and Sap, Erik was hitting ~600 Persecutters.

Yeah, I went greatswords for my hero the whole game so far but I wanted to try out one handed swords. I made sure to grab Strength +25 before respeccing. I wonder if there’s any more pro strats with this, since you can essentially go “backwards” through the hero’s tree doing this.

Harrow posted:Anyway, actual discussion stuff: what are people's favorite weapons for Jade and Rab? I'm guessing spears for Jade because she looks rad as hell with them and spears own, but I also think someone should be using claws. How's Rab with claws? (Yes, I know respeccing is easy, but buying/crafting good weapons costs resources so I'd rather switch back and forth as little as possible ) I like Claw Jade because she has a high Crit rate, and with MP recovery items, you can spam Hawkeye (~2x damage, never misses) and Hardclaw (3x attacks aka 3x chances for crit for ~3.5x damage total). Hawkeye helps with her HP absorption better, which actually helps in a surprising number of situations, and Hardclaw just shits out damage, especially if you get multiple crits. With MP recovery, both are free or effectively free to spam. Admittedly I haven't compared this to the spear damage from Multithrust, so I'd love to see someone crunch the numbers to determine what does more damage. I also like Claw Rab because he does decent attack damage and he gets MP absorption with them, which can also let him spam Hawkeye and Hardclaw. Admittedly, I don't really use him for attack magic, though, just Sap and Heals. Harrow posted:Also, when it comes to respeccing, I know that you respec one skill section at a time. I did it with the Hero to get +25 Strength and then ditched Greatswords. The only exception are secret panels, which will also flip over if you respec out of one of the adjacent ones, regardless of which category it is.

mauman posted:So, I've been messing around with a Spear Serena and I'm actually kinda surprised how well it works. I like spear Serena. Currently at level 16-17 she does more damage then the MC. She has the +15 attack with spears enabled, and the spear dodge etc, so she is rocking a 7% dodge rate which is super useful for a healer. For enemies without much physical resistance she does great. Against enemies with physical resistance she has options. This is on harder monster mode.

Ran spear Serena for a long while, but she didn't have reliable damage options later down the line, so I spent heavy in her other trees. Eventually dropped spears for wands, once shields with element resists started popping up. That stuff is top shelf, and resist on gear get better the more you stack. Provided, there aren't great options all around, but after Swoosh pops up, don't look back. The little bit of Magic Might you can stack from gear will add up, and shields help with just that. She'll ultimately have a super bad rear end niche with spears, but there is a big fat chunk of time where she'll just be really underwhelming, and Shields + Wand is just the less underwhelming alternative since at least it will help keep her alive to fill support. Not much, but its something. That's not to be down on Serena. She isn't exactly stand out, but I field her plenty often, because Buff is just that good, and her Hymns are legit, so she carries a ton of weight on hardmode. Aside: Greatswords are the poo poo - but what's up with the idle stance in battles? There is a super boss idle in menus, and for a moment when hero draws his weapon he sort of pauses for a moment, holding it straight up which looks loving killer... but then he drops very sudden and awkwardly into one of those hypertypical slack shouldered weak anime posses that neither looks cool or practical, and services nothing but to poorly communicate "this is heavy... my feet hurt...". 'Fortunately' it's the same slack shoulder bullshit sword and board so it at least there isn't any need to deliberate. Idles are globally garbage, but at least greatswords have killer looking moves.

I did some testing, and Spear Jade with Multithrust definitely does more damage than Claw Jade with Hardclaw. Of course, Multithrust costs more MP than Hardclaw, so you're either balancing that throughout a dungeon or need MP regen (like her +6 MP/turn unique accessory!). Jade owns. I think she's my top damage dealer and having a self buff on top of that just makes it so much better.
