I know our H-60s were designed with all kinds of stuff in mind that we never installed, so we got to hang steel plates off the nose, but those Bell 206s didn't have that design in mind. Is there a bunch of ballast in the back? Can you not take passengers anymore? Does the camera system just not weigh all that much?

Well, that photo shows 3 people inside the helicopter, so it can't be that heavy. It's not like you're going to put a steadycam setup on your aircraft and then use it to ferry people around or go on tours.

The theory is you have a stealth plane until youve beat them into powder, then you strap on JDAMS and go to bomb truckin' work. Not saying its the best idea or not, but thats the idea. Either way, everyone in a involved country better be pulling for the F-35. We're way past the point of return on this.

slidebite posted:This could have turned out a hell of a lot worse than it did Urk. Isn't the recovery sequence full right rudder/full elevator until the nose drops into a axial spin? Lucky bastard even so. (edit) lifted from here: http://www.pprune.org/archive/index.php/t-235541.html From Flight Unlimited by Eric Muller and Annette Carson - paraphrased. Throttle closed - most important Stick back and 'in' to the spin. Opposite rudder. When the rotation stops bring the stick central and neutral, recover, take pants to cleaners ! The Muller/Beggs recovery works for nearly all standard aeroplanes and spins and is let go of the stick and rudder, press fully on the rudder pedal that floats toward you, as the rotation stops, catch the stick as it moves from rear left or right to central. There was also a general consensus that, if you've got altitude (time), get as much mass forward as possible, and that the further behind the CG the axis of spin is, the more likely you're screwed. Sure, that's what they prescribe, but his elevator and rudder were not behaving as control surfaces, just flat plates. The only bits that were moving fast enough to provide any aerodynamic action were the alerions.

I had the same thing happen to me when I was working on my PPL. He was descending from above and behind with an extra 10-15 knots while I was entering the control zone and came about that close to me. Neither I, my instructor were too happy about it but there wasn't anything we could do but fly the airplane.
