I've seen an active attempt by Dems to rehabilitate Clinton, I think it was a big push when Hilary was running. But ultimately most millenials are too young to remember Clinton very well so there's not much attachment with Hilary out of the spotlight.

The conspiracy stuff is whats involving pizzeria basements and poo poo. A conspiracy that can be exposed and beaten somehow is vastly less scary than reality, a lot of the time. You can bring down Hillary's pizza pedo ring. Confronting "rich and influential people can get away with heinous things by using their money and influence" is a nearly insurmountable problem.

Im just never going to buy anything and starve to death to own the libs. Also im not sure that plan even works, they pay the fee if you make the whole thing on your card or charge 50 cents so either way they're paying the fee.

Swipe fees are a percentage, and usually there's a minimum so stores don't like you swiping for less than a certain amount. But yeah if you pay $20 in cash and swipe for $0.35 then the store is saving money on the entire transaction. Hm I'm starting to think conservatives aren't that smart

I mean, they have a point - most Krogers do still have some small amount of change. We just need it to keep the self checkouts running. Also Kroger is the dumbest example possible because your change gets loaded to the rewards card. They should focus their ineffective spite on the companies with “We round up!” signs.

PeterCat posted:I feel like I'm having an old man moment. There are stores out there that don't have change? My understanding is that because people weren't shopping in person and also the Mint being short staffed during covid the endless circulation of physical currency is messed up and now places are having issues keeping up supply. I guess coins aren't as easy to make as paper money, although it seems like it would be backwards since we use weird cloth bills

In the occupation of Iraq there was a huge shortage of US coins because shipping them overseas is extremely expensive, so the post exchange made change in scrip, basically cardboard pogs with coin denominations on them. I found a bunch clearing out the attic at the beginning of covid.

jivjov posted:plus the whole "this note is legal tender, good for all debts public or private" thing Which is true at least in parts of the UK, legal tender means if you offer to fully pay off a debt to someone in legal tender, they can't sue you for failing to repay. You can run a store that only accepts dollars or bitcoins or purestrain gold if you really want, but you can't decide to pay your corporation tax in that.
