Frankly, this "revelation" seems to carry about as much weight as trying to claim the proposed Titles of Nobility Amendment has actual legal consequences in the modern day.

I mean, what the hell would this actually change? It would just be another debate point: Zeon sympathizers would claim the Founding Fathers of Space meant for Jedi to have equal authority in matters of state, while the Federation sympathizers would simply state the actual history is it was removed and therefore has no bearing on the current political situation beyond academic discussion.

Kerning Chameleon posted:Space Politics Short version: The Universal Century's space politics is a goddamn powderkeg waiting to blow at any moment. The last time it blew at full force, half of humanity died in nuclear hellfire, poison gas, regular combat and Zeon trying to use a 20-mile-long colony as a bunker-buster, only for it to break in half during reentry, one half breaking into a debris shower that devastated north america and the other half crashing mostly intact into Sydney, Australia. The charter is basically everyone thinking "oh lord this is a lit match" EDIT: Also after all that Zeon remnants about 6 or so years after that war decided "Let's have more war, we still got some fighting left" and then decided "Let's drop another colony, this time on Dublin"

So I guess that extra charter means Zeon is in the right to create their own Empire in space or something?

SgtSteel91 posted:So I guess that extra charter means Zeon is in the right to create their own Empire in space or something? Unicorn does very little to actually talk about what the political structure for the colonies is. To be honest, as far as I remember, much of the series sort of handwaves it for just the war on the front lines angle. That said, the gist I'm aware of is: Most of humanity was forced to immigrate to the colonies; those on earth are *mostly* the government or economic elites (if memory serves, though I feel like this has been retconned a bit?). And the colonies, outside of the Republic of Zeon, have very little autonomy in government (as their governments are appointed from earth). This is basically saying "Okay fine, you people get the right to vote after all, I guess."

At this point in the history, it just seems like yet another topic for everyone to pointlessly squabble about while the Zeon-Flavor-of-the-Day and the Federation continue to slaughter each other without end.

I'm not sure whether it's awesome or weird that Burger King is using Return of the Mack to advertise their Mac & Cheetos. Poor Mark Morrison must be so sad about the direction his life had to go that this song would be the one thing people remember him for.
