Bringing in P2W without shattering the economy is impressive, and the game mechanics ensure that--except for Casino-scale intervemtions--ISK isn't enough to win over skill, organization, etc.

They do all the stupid F2P MMO tricks, giving you a super-small inventory then charging you realbux to expand it, at a rate of about a dollar a slot, if you want to look any sort of unique, that'll cost you lotsabucks. Not sure what the conversion rate is on their cash to funny money, but I think its a 1-100 conversion rate. A set of fancy cosmetic armor will run you ~22 USD if my conversion math is right. They manage to claw money out of their users in amazing ways.

I tried Black Desert and wasn't thrilled, but it does have one innovative feature EVE lacks: You could leave your room.     If they can ever get Walking In Stations working that would open up a vast vista of cosmetic microtransactions that wouldn't hurt the spaceship game at all. It would also be launching a huge new feature to try to rope in new players. And the RP crowd loves nothing more than sitting in taverns or running shops. And I gotta think at least some of the people who take their space job too seriously would love to be able to have their staff meetings in a space office where everyone sits around the space conference table. It could probably be a money maker even if there was no first person combat feature and it was just a social thing. Once you have avatars wandering around they can have housing, a lot of MMO fans loving love housing. And once they have space homes they want to decorate them and not just have anonymous identical space hotel rooms like CCP gave us. People will pay tens of dollars for fake furniture and spend hours lovingly arranging it. For example, here's the furniture you can buy in BDO. http://www.bdo-furniture.com/ Some of that you can get in game, but all the nice stuff requires spending actual money. (Oh, and in BDO there is minor benefit to having one of the best decorated houses in town. Best decorated being decided automatically by having the most 'points' of furniture, with cash shop furniture worth more points than the free furniture. So anyone who wants the best decorated prize turns their home into an ugly cash shop warehouse.) From there it is no big whoop to add in housing based minigames that let you use your house as a grow op for piddly amounts of tabbaco, spirits, or long-limbed roes. Things that would have a terrible isk/effort ratio, but would be catnip to the sort of people who love MMOs but hate PVP. There are a lot of people who love MMOs and hate PVP. They don't have to gently caress up the parts of the game that work well in order to mine cash from the IP. They will, but they don't have to.

Do they even have catboys and catgirls? I never checked, I thought that was more a final fantasy thing. One thing of note is BDO took boob physics to about a 12, because lol they're terrible. Even wearing full plate armor with the smallest possible boobs in the game in that does not make female characters immune to "boobs flopping everywhere syndrome" The answer to this is make a male character, but why does my junk not jiggle as a male character? I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW I AM WELL ENDOWED.
