No Opinion/Anyone gets 50% in that scenario.

I read the piece and if nothing else I don't see it as in any way flattering or humanizing to her. It basically spends its time talking about how she was growing too toxic for the alt right people. Richard Spencer is in there saying she isn't even really one of them, she's just an rear end in a top hat who likes hating people. She basically admits as much even while trying to compare herself to a saint. Her friends say they had to deprogram her. The article notes that this all happened because they were trying to sell an essay she wrote trying to redeem herself and they refused to publish it but were willing to talk to her and write their own piece. And it ends basically with this:quote:Knowing exactly what to do with McHugh isn’t easy; but the point is more what she is able to do, not what society is supposed to do for her. So like, I'm not sure there's anything worthwhile to it unless you want to map the alt right and racism and its connections, which it sounds like is what this lady's use is to the writer as she's been giving him stuff to expose. But it doesn't read to me like one of those "know your nazi neighbor" pieces. Its mostly just a takedown of what a poo poo she is.

By the way, AR.com is supposedly "American Renaissance" but imo it was more likely altright.com, owned/edited by Richard Spencer. e: not that American Renaissance is a whole lot better, but the connection to Richard Spencer is already there and "fired from Breitbart for being too racist" is squarely in Richard Spencer's ideological ballpark

I was talking to my wife recently about weird poo poo we remember from childhood, and Wally George came up and I immediately though of this thread. Anybody else here grow up in Southern California and remember him on local broadcasting? In hindsight, he was a prelude to where we are today with regard to right-wing media/punditry. He hosted a show for conservatives called 'Hot Seat' in the 1980s where he'd basically just have liberals/hippies/LGBTQ on so that he and his mouth-frothingly fascist audience could scream at them with the eventual goal of having them physically removed from the set by security. poo poo was wild. He had a poster of a space shuttle launch behind him in every episode that read "USA is #1" and sported Trump's haircut before it was Trump's haircut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcNyvCJJXFQ

Surprised I hadn’t heard of this, but I was too young I only remember 90s Southern California. He also had a cowboy Reagan painting. Seeing that crowd of jeering assholes makes me shocked that all the old rear end politicians and pundits didn’t immediately liken the MAGA crowd to Reaganites from the 80s. poo poo I imagine the die hard Reagan zealots were actually worse, you could get away with a lot more public poo poo in the 80s than now.

I don't remember Wally George (and have never heard of him for that matter) but I remember the first time I heard Rush Limbaugh (in San Francisco of all places) and I swear to god I thought it was straight up satire and an act. Probably was for that matter. I also remember hearing Alex Jones on the radio for the first time driving through Georgia late one night and it was some weird "Space Aliens are REAL" call in show and I thought the same thing. It felt like the entire show was scripted, including the callers, and the whole thing was some weird, satirical radio theater, which probably isn't that far off. I thought it was hilarious and highly entertaining. But then these radio guys realize that 1/3 of americans are dumb enough to believe that everything on the radio must be real so they double down, get idiots taking them seriously, rake in ratings and sponsors and then make the country stupider by half through adopting their made up persona. It's astonishing to me that anyone could listen to this poo poo and think it's real underground, unfiltered TRUTH that "they" don't want you to know when it's willfully and aggressively being broadcast to 95% of the country and backed by hundreds of corporate advertisers. Oh, yeah, they're out to get me and THEY don't want to anyone to hear the truth I'm laying down because it's so dangerous and too real/close to the Truth. We're dishing out the REAL DEAL that the mainstream media is afraid to tell you. COX and Clear Channel. Totally not "mainstream" Motherfuckers think they're Christian Slater pumping up the volume or doing some x-files smoking man ham radio poo poo in between commercials for Safe Touch and My Pillow.
