My mom called today to tell me she had to put my childhood cat down this morning. He was 17 - I had him more than half my life and I miss him. If you have pictures of well-loved tabby cats (especially grizzled old toms) that'd be wonderful.

All of our photos of him are at my moms house, but my childhood cat Muffin was the very definition of a grizzled old tomcat, and he was a tabby to boot. Muffin was amazing. I was around 8 when we got him; we were driving home from somewhere, and we noticed a "kittens - $5!" in someones yard. I picked Muffin because he was the only one in the litter with 4 white paws. He was SUPPOSED to be a female - his original name was Violet, but we found out on our first vet trip that that was not the case, so Violet became Muffin. Still not very masculine, but he was a badass to the core to make up for it. No matter how hard we tried to keep him indoors, once he reached around a year old he could not be contained. He would hide on the basement staircase which was next to the back door, and bolt out as soon as someone opened it. He had his own apartment - the old neighbor lady had a treehouse in her backyard that had once been used by her grandson, and 9 times out of 10 if you were looking for Muffin you could find him in his treehouse, watching over the neighborhood. He was a HUGE cat, too, his head was the size of a baseball and about as hard. He always carried his tail over his back, and had a very proud demeanor. He was also very territorial - he chased a Labrador out of our driveway once, and attacked neighbor children (probably not very funny to the children but I can't help but laugh when I think about it). He LOVED braunschweiger, and would sit at the table with us to eat it. He lived to be 14, and I still miss that cranky old bastard.
