For Favorite Producer Friday (or just Producer Friday, I'm not really sure which one it is), here are my 5 for High Contrast: (in no specific order) Lovesick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y4V6RrUIfo The first track on High Society. I fell in love with this one first time I heard it and it's one of those tracks that gives me this warm, chilled out feeling every time I hear it. Everything's Different https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpPk9dhK8iw The first HC track I ever heard, and boy was I impressed the first time I heard it. It was the best, most refined liquid D&B I'd heard, and I was immediately in love. Right after the song finished playing the first time I heard it, I went and got Tough Guys Don't Dance and it was so great. Still one of my favorite albums to this day. Days Go By https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YF97oinYDQ The closer to Fabriclive 25 which sends goosebumps down my entire body every time I listen to that mix. It's just the perfect closer to something like that. I'm not sure that it produces the same impact when listened by itself, but in the context of the mix, goddamn it's powerful. That mix is absolutely crazy and one of my favorites, and this is a great inclusion in it. Brief Encounter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwN4v9HiBfM Orchestral, epic sounding tune. Sounds like something that could maybe be used in a car chase scene set at night in a Bond movie. Only Two Can Play (ft. Spoonface) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57l6Zi5C4Jk One of those tracks I keep coming back to more than others. Parts of Spoonface's vocals in this remind me of old jungle music, which is definitely a welcome quality in contemporary D&B. Rageaholic fucked around with this message at 10:54 on Mar 4, 2011 |

Yeah, like I said, I'm not ragging on your choices, they're good tracks. It's just funny, for most DnB producers there would be some overlap between two people thinking of their top 5 tracks.

Same here, I don't think any of those would make my personal HC top 5, though I like most of them. Anyway, nothing fancy, but here's my top 5 Mistabishi tunes: From Memory - Still my absolute favourite tune, except maybe for the Matrix remix. Beautiful stuff. Learn To Love The Rain - My fave tune of his pre-Hospital work, in a similar vein to From Memory, but more chilled. No Matter What (Single Version) - One of those classic piano-driven rave-fuelled tunes. This version's a minute longer than the album version. She Lied - I love how this builds up as the tune progresses. The Light's Really Bad - Would be a fantastic album closer in its own right.

I'm not a huge High Contrast but I really like that Days Go By track since it samples from Fleetwood Mac. Anyways, so my Friday 5 this week is SUB FOCUS. I promise that my 5 won't be everybody's favorite, but they are up towards the top of the list in my book. Sub Focus is an awesome producer because he doesn't limit himself to straight DNB. He has a very large mix of dnb, dubstep, and house/electro elements thrown in. Without further ado... (these are in no particular order) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1htoGl9QXK8 "Ghosts 'n' Stuff (Sub Focus Remix)" - Deadmau5 ft. Rob Swire Deadmau5 is one of my favorite DJs outside of drum and bass. Ghosts n stuff stands as one of my favorite tracks by him, and I love Rob Swire's vocals (though I know a lot of you hate them) so this was a logical choice for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoZFnkchtv0 "Could This Be Real" - Sub Focus This is one of my favorites. It's a little more up-beat dubstep with some house elements thrown in. There is a drum and bass remix that he made for the song that is pretty good too, but the original is my favorite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NI2b7qXUlnE "Hold On (Sub Focus Remix)" - Rusko ft. Amber Coffman This track is a really great one. Drumstep at its absolute best. I'm pretty sure this remix got bigger than the original song - it's just that good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdJgwf-_HGY "Rock It" - Sub Focus Possibly Sub Focus's biggest and most popular track today, with good reason. I am pretty sure it's the first Sub Focus song i ever heard, and is still one of my favorites. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3QfMQE5cg0 "Move Higher" - Sub Focus I'm not even sure what genre you would classify this - probably some subgenre of house. But for some reason it's my favorite track on Sub Focus's album. This is just a personal favorite - not sure what others care to think of it.

Nice picks Dr. Goonstein. I'm still working on mine, but wanted to mention these:Dr. Goonstein posted:"Could This Be Real" - Sub Focus It's house, 125 BPM at that. Five good ol' Decoder tunes:
There are a lot of other tunes by him I wish I could find audio for, like "Circuit Breaker", "Fuse" and "Tension". He had some great collabs with Tech Itch and Substance too (they went on to form Kosheen), and I think one of his mid-90s tunes on Ruffneck Ting was one of the early pieces of vinyl I bought.

Dr. Goonstein posted:Sub Focus Haha, this would probably my top 5 exactly too. Well done! Though I'd probably want to add Last Jungle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndxcBZjaZWY and Splash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkQNrGrMLrU as numbers 6 and 7. I think I'll go back to an "older" artist as well. I was thinking about posting Zinc, but his tracks are all over the place, ranging from jungle, dnb, dubstep, house to his current stuff, self-proclaimed "crackhouse". So I decided to go with Dillinja. Dillinja - Twist Em Out - One of his more popular tracks (and I went with the version without Skibadee, not really a huge MC fan) Dillinja - Grimey - First Dillinja track I heard and still a classic to this day. Dillinja & Lemon D - Valve Sound - So deep, soo good. Dillinja - Hard Noize - Arguably his best best/most popular track to date. Dillinja - All Aboard - My ABSOLUTE favorite Dillinja track!! Some of these seem like obvious choices...but they're obvious choices for a reason - they're soo good. Edit: Some notables I left off - Go Dillinja, Human Bebop, Nasty Ways, Deadliest Deep Subs Boywunda fucked around with this message at 20:34 on Mar 4, 2011 |

I love the way it sneaks in during the intro, and then slams in with full force once the perfect Photek drums come back in. It's impossible to understand how monstrous this is without hearing it on a big club system. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykALcAUWM-E&feature=related "Mine to Give ft. Robert Owens" - Photek doing his house thing. Pure grooving deep house with classic-sounding vocals and a lovely warm catchy bass riff. This was a pretty big underground house hit back in the day, as I understand it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggeu5vhbueo "Ni Ten Ichi Ryu" - The ultimate example of those 'perfect Photek drums' I mentioned before. Possibly his most well-known tune. The Teebee remix is a very rare example of a remix of a classic that is just as good as the original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjW4SwjiQlk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwG_aj8iWoQ "UFO" - Unsettling vocal samples, razor-sharp percussion, fantastic progression - this track builds atmosphere as an art form. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-SrE6iTuIM "101" - My favourite track off his new EP. Unparalleled use of samples and atmosphere. This could be an amazing soundtrack to so many things. Anae fucked around with this message at 21:00 on Mar 4, 2011 |

Was busy last night with work so here's my Producer Favorite 5 for this week: GRAFIX Grafix - Show Me How https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQbs4zgkNCg Absolute sick bass in this song. Probably my favorite Grafix song, never gets old. The sub bass in this song just rattles my car it's so sick.. Grafix - Holding On https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS8q2FR3p1M One of the lesser known tunes by him, but it's a winner. Just plain lovely, anyone who likes grafix but hasn't heard this should take a listen. Those vocals and that piano... Hits the spot. Love the synths too. Grafix - Lack of Motion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-8riZ5SbUM Classic. Lovely delays and synths. Great in every way, I can't imagine there's a Grafix fan who hasn't heard this song. Grafix - I Must Say https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtf-VC7GQv4 nnngghhhhh god grafix is the master of drum loops. Such awesome drums it blows my mind. Probably one of the first songs I'd give to someone starting on listening to Grafix. Drop is loving sick. Grafix - Take Your Time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHj0obbJX9E Punchiest drums I've ever heard. Yet again a ridiculously catchy and addictive tune by the god known as Grafix. Love it love it love it. Some great lists in here! I urge anybody who hasn't listened to any Grafix to give some of the tunes I listed a listen; he's really an amazing producer. edit: I didn't include collabs, I wanted it strictly grafix, even though alot of his best songs are by him and Fred V. Guess I'll save em for next week!

Aww man zeldadude, I do love me some Grafix. The one track that I probably would have had to thrown in there is Let Go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmX04N-8lms I know the tracks I picked for my top 5 weren't exactly what everybody liked, but they are easily my top 5. I too would have liked to thrown in Lost Jungle and Splash but they just could not make those top 5. As for some of the other tracks mentioned - I'm not a big fan of Timewave at all really. X-Ray is a decent song but didn't make my top 5. To tell the truth I had never heard Swamp Thing before, though it is pretty awesome now that I hear it. I still don't think it would have made my top 5 though. I would have like to put Airplane on it, but that got posted not long ago, so I figured maybe other lurkers/newcomers would like to see some new songs posted. I don't like the vocal sample on Airplane really, but the beat is just so catchy. SUBFRIES - Thanks for pointing that out. Like I said, I figured they had some House ties - they are just not the kind of house music I am used to. Granted I realize House as a whole is a very broad genre, I am just used to the kind of mellow stuff oftentimes with a soft-voiced female singer. It just goes to show how diverse Sub Focus is.
