Ookuma-chan Flashback is definitely mother-con bait(with no editorial thrust behind it, I'm sure!). It's not an incest story, though. It's a sweet romance with a provocative supernatural hook like MGX was. Wait! Hear me out. *theory and general plot spoilers* Minoru doesn't just see his father's memories, he's been possessed by his ghost since he was a child. He has memory gaps about moments where he's especially affectionate or possessive toward his mother. His actions toward her under the influence of the flashbacks are depicted as him not losing control, but possession of his senses. When he is in control, he avoids those situations and fights the thoughts he has about his adult mother only brought about by his father's influence. He thinks of teenaged Ookuma-chan and his adult mother as different people, likely a conflation of his romantic feelings toward Hajime and his sense of duty toward his widow mother. Ookuma-chan Flashback isn't a story of a son falling in incestuous love with his mother. It's two teenage romances being shown in parallel and(I predict) a woman finally moving on from her husband's death and putting his spirit to rest. Mysterious Girlfriend X is one of my favorite manga, and it leads me to believe Ueshima's capable of threading the needle here. Tl;dr: Minoru doesn't have an Oedipal complex, he's just a dutiful mama's boy playing unwitting host to his horny ghost dad. But I can't blame anyone for not liking it, even with that reading.

I think its the same studio that did Megalo Box And some of the Lupin stuff. So it should be in good hands. I just don't know how well Boichi's art is going to translate to anime. But the promo looks pretty good. So I have high hopes. 24 episodes might mean they can adapt up to the Stone Wars arc. Which should be a good cutoff point.
