I'm sure it's a poo poo job sometimes, but man, I'd love to make trailers for a living. It's so much fun. I envy your job dude.

Deakul posted:Fantastic Beasts... I can't really say for sure if I'm excited or not yet, Harry Potter is a guilty pleasure for me but this doesn't look quite right to me. The vibe I'm getting is "We need more Harry Potter, but the audience has grown up a bit so let's make a more adult Harry Potter!" I'm not feeling any sense of whimsy (that's a technical term referring to British children's books) from the trailer. It's like it's shifting the franchise into a more generic tentpole role. But that's just impressions on the trailer from someone who doesn't really care about Harry Potter. Maybe it's just a weird marketing choice.

My favorite Potter movie is Half Blood Prince, it's basically the Empire Strikes Back of Potters. Here's hoping the spinoff is good though.

I've not read the books but to be honest I was kind of expecting that in a movie called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them that there would be more of a focus on fantastic beasts and where they are found, like a David Attenborough documentary about unicorns and snozzblats or whatever. I'm sure the movie will be thrilling for Potter fans but I don't really see anything to interest anybody else?

Doctor Strange trailer. No idea what the comic/story is about but it looks kinda cool to me. Also Tilda Swinton. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwcSki7r9cQ

I'm sure the movie will be thrilling for Potter fans but I don't really see anything to interest anybody else? 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' was a textbook written by Newt Scamander assigned to Harry Potter and the other students at Hogwarts and was mentioned in the novel and the movie adaptation. Rowling later went on to write and publish that 'textbook' under that name to raise money for the charity Comic Relief and that inspired someone at Warner Bros to pitch a movie trilogy to her. This movie will be about the fictional author of the fictional textbook and the plot will be that he's captured a bunch of fantasy monsters and is storing them in a magical suitcase but they escape into New York so he has to go catch them all over again and then deal with the aftermath of their attacks. So in a way the "Where to Find Them" part of the title already works in two ways: you find them in Newt's suitcase, and then Newt has to find them all over again after they escape. But I wouldn't be surprised if the film also has a whole bunch of scenes showing Newt originally finding them out in the wild.

That is as psychedelic as I was hoping. A little beige though. Here's hoping that it lives up to this trailer.

BonoMan posted:Doctor Strange trailer. That really does look interesting for a comic book movie. No fight scenes in the trailer...so why is there fight scene music the whole time? Needs better BGM, I think edit; I guess Chiwetel Ejiofor is Baron Mordo. He looks like a reprise of the assassin from Serenity. BonoMan posted:Doctor Strange trailer. OMG, they made the Ancient One a WOMAN! More seriously, that trailer only seemed to cover what's probably going to be the first act of the film. It's the stuff that makes Doctor Strange a cool character and it looks like they're hitting the beats right with it.

Trailer and all but DR. STRANGE's visuals look very sterile as opposed to psychedelic or anything else, as though someone looked thru a children's kaleidescope and thought that was enough to convey magic. Hopefully that assessment proves false for the overwhelming potential here but that looked merely like INCEPTION getting a sequel.

My thoughts exactly. *Hollywood executive has two darts.. throws one at a spinning board* Batman Begins *Throws second dart* Inception 'WE HAVE OUR NEXT BLOCKBUSTER BOYS"

Trailer for the new Henry Rollins film, 'The Last Heist'. If it's half as good as He Never Died, I'm okay with Rollins falling into the niche of "Psycho picks off criminals who are in way over their head".

A lot of it just doesn't have depth of field, so there's tons of stuff on screen that scream "Look at me" and my eyes have problems figuring out what to focus on. And it makes the hurty-brain thing trying to figure out why the depth of field doesn't match the placement 3D tells me it does.
