I'm more baffled by Christian Death Metal. Seems like two concepts that should be anathema to each other. At least with punk I've known people who interpret Christ as a true rebel and tie that to punk.

There's some intense, violent poo poo in the bible. There's nothing inherently anti-Christian about death metal, it's just a common theme. Incubus (not that one) were overtly Christian and sounded as scary as any of their peers.

I suppose that's true, I guess I just feel like death metal on the whole is inherently anti-religion, plus you got the fundies (although I don't consider them real Christians) trying to censor music for imagery involving violence and sex, although I don't imagine there's much talk of sex in Christian Death Metal

No sex, but the band I mentioned writes gruesomely about abortion, for example.

that stuff is prominent in a lot of death metal but its more an inherent part of black metal.

It won't be Rancid 2000 part 2 but I don't think anything ever could be.

i just listened to it, it's... not very good. maybe the weakest rancid album to date. nothing on it is very memorable and it feels like worn territory. i think the last great rancid album was indestructible and it's hard to believe it's nearly 15 years old.

Yeah and wow, Thursday's live show still continues to amaze me when you remember how old they are (not to age shame or anything) but he's legitimately one of the most energetic front men I've ever seen at every show. Never takes a second off or phones it in. And god drat, playing Autobiography, Hole, and Jet Black is such a good choice.

Are you going to PKEW in July? Cannot wait for that.

So that situation with the Dickies is uh, interesting. War On Women's Shawna Potter posted this

quote:

The second week of Warped Tour has already brought a darkness with it. This week, as the long-running punk band The Dickies were doing their usual shock rock performance, in which frontman Leonard Graves Phillips made jokes about things like how much he loves teen girls and how he would love to snort Viagra off your asses and gently caress your daughters, a female acquaintance of ours held up a sign in the front of the crowd that read: "Teen girls deserve respect, not gross jokes from disgusting old men! Punk shouldn't be predatory!" What followed was a long, misogynist tirade directed at her from the singer.

"Kiss it, ya bitch! I have hosed farm animals that were prettier than you, you loving hog," he shouted on the mic, his words traveling past the crowd, over the field. This elicited some laughs from the audience, who he then led in a chant of: "BLOW ME! BLOW ME! BLOW ME! BLOW ME! BLOW ME! BLOW ME! BLOW ME!" before wrapping up with: "How does it feel? To get shouted away, you oval office? C.U.N.T. Can you spell? You're a fat oval office. gently caress you!"

And here's his lovely apology, if you can call it that

quote:

I finally let my anger get the better of me. I let her know what I thought of her ageist, nasty, Leonard-hating behavior. I used very rude language. I understand the word 'oval office' is inflammatory and that many women have been abused by this word. I should have called her an 'rear end in a top hat.'

It wasn't my proudest moment … but neither was the time I urinated on the audience. I wasn't there to 'prey' on anyone's child. In all honesty, as fine as most of my audiences are, I'll pass on having oral sex with each and every one of them."
